Featured Replies

well i checked the oil on the car this mornin all ok.

drove from colchester to manchester all ok,

i then got back in the car and went to the shop which is 3 mile away and my oil light came on so i pulled over and it went off,

i then continued home when i got on my street it happend again pulled over no signs of oil leak, all a sudden started runing rough like no oil in the car.

the problem i have got the car still warm so cant check the oil but the dip stick seemed to have oil on it.

any ideas what this could be please help!!!!

Maybe a failing oil pump or a partially blocked oilway?

Just a thought!? :S

Hope you get it sorted without damage.

Could be crap in the sump and its not getting picked up.

Dont know how hard it is to take the sump off put if easy i would do it and see if its clean in there.

It's not uncommon for the oil pick up to get clogged up on the 1.8 engine. I wouldn't drive it until you know the cause of the problem as you could wreck the engine if oil isn't getting to where it should.

sounds like the pickup is blocked do not drive it

new pickup £8 from skoda

new sump sealent £12

new oil filter + oil £25

about 1 to 2 hours work

drain oil

remove sump 18 10mm bolts or 5 mm allen key for the ones near the gearbox

then the pickup is held on by 2x 10 bolts thats it

imho this should be changed as a service item every year as for such a cheap part that can cause all the problems like blown engine or turbo

when i took mine off it ws blocked to high heaven shocking really as its not on the service parts atall with skoda

The oil pick ups could be blocked. I wouldn't use the car until you get the problem sorted. If your engine and turbo don't get oil it could all go wrong.

thanks for the replys guys had a mechanic check it this morning and its the oil pick up.

Is this a known problem only on the 1.8 petrol or also on other variants including diesels?

I have been told its a common problem with the petrol not sure bout the diesel

It was a common problem on the late 90's 1.8T passat but not so much so on later 1.8Ts.

The problem can happen if the sump has been taken off in the past and when it was replaced there was too much sealant applied. The sealant then leaks into the sump and clogs the oil pickup.
