Rear door won't open

I've had intermittent problems with locking and unlocking on the o/s rear door for years. Now it's locked shut, and, even with the door card off, I cannot get it to open by pulling/pushing the rod or using the remote.

1)Anybody got any ideas how to get the door open so I can work on it easily?

2)Is it possible to rig the lock to open maually only?
