Checking Engine Power

Featured Replies

HI folks,

Iam driving a Eleglance CR 170 or so it is meant to be, but everthing time I type my car Reg into a database (insurance etc) it keeps stating that it is the Eleglance CR 140. How can I check this ( it still packs a punch though), I know that in the Commerical trade the manufacture, year, gearbox, wheelbase etc can be checked from the 17 digit vehicle VIN Number (chassis number), but is this the same with a car. I would excpect so, is so what the code for the engine rating, or how do I check the engine rating.

Regards

This simple vin decoder will give the engine power i.e. Škoda Superb II Comfort/Ambition/Elegance 2.0 TDI 125kw

There better ones for a small charge will give you a full list of details, sometimes several pages long.

Check the rating on the data sticker, which you can find in the service book or in the boot. It will be in kW.

The CR140 is also a pretty new engine in the Superb (last couple of months) how old is your car?

The car was bought last October as an ex demo, which was registered in July last year (2009).

The 140 was an option then if I was buying a new car, but I think only as a PD not CR

Yes correct, so if it is a CR then it will be the 170.

I assume you can't identify the engine by the TDI badge as with older VAG cars? I was looking at one with a red d and i which I was curious if it indicated the engine power, the engine certainly seemed very quiet so I was assuming it was a CR rather than a PD (10 plate car) although I don't really know about the Superbs.

Red DI should indicate 170

I ve check the service bbok and the vin details both state Elegance 2.0 TDI 125kw, but is the 125kw for the 170BHP or for the 140 BHP

Thanks
