Aircon not cold

Featured Replies

Hi All

Just got a 2002 Octy elegance, Got price down because aircon not cold. Where do I start....have it regassed ?. Pulley and belt is ok, climatronic controls function ok.

Mine was similar and my Dad just regassed it, good as new now!

I'd try that in the first instance - will you be doing it yourself or independant dealer? When regassing they'll be able to tell if it has a leak, if not - then you should be okay.

Check the clutch is still there on the bottom pulley, and after that get it regassed (and/or dye tested to check for leaks).

KwickFit are doing an offer for £50 where if they can't make it colder by 10% (or something) then it is free, so if you have a leak then they won't charge (assuming it leaks out very quickly) :giggle:

Guys at kwikfit regassed the system but did not charge me as they said the compressor was'nt engaging.

Had a local independant stick vagcom on the car.....climatronic all checked out, He said electro mag coil was at fault as rad fans were coming on and these get power supply off same relay. He advised me to get a clutch/mag pulley off a scrappy and fit that as it does'nt involve breaking into the system.

Before you do that, check the 4-pin connector (t4t) that slides into the slot on the cable bracket on top of the starter motor. The A/C mag clutch connections are the two thicker wires. These can become brittle and break at the connector, especially if they are disturbed when removing the starter motor
