Re-mapping advice please

Featured Replies

Hello fellow members,

Just come out of warranty with my 2007 Octy VRS TDI PD (170) and fancy getting it properly re-mapped. Nothing nuts, just more driveable and better economy would be nice too. Have been in touch with Angel Tuning who seem to know what they're doing. Any feedback? Am in North Cumbria and don't really want to travel too far to get it done if anybody is going to suggest another company.

Look forward to your help chaps.

Baz

To be fair I would have to agree with Ben's statement of "can't be beaten" at the moment.

That is a good offer (very good actually), providing you have a need to switch maps. I don't think your average remap customer need that function...

Hi and welcome aboard.

It's not necessarily about the need to switch maps, for most customers it's more about the travelling that makes the STS attractive

Yeah.... am a little unsure about these pre-set self tune things. I would much rather have a proper session with a customised re-map done by a pro who knows their business inside out. I'm sure these self tune systems are good, but how reliable are they? Do the cars smoke? Have issues with fly wheels? Over fuel? Am just not sure about them.

The Self Tuning System device is only the device used to put our map on the car - the map is still done by us in the same way as if you drove down to our workshop.

Our tuning does not cause smoke (you have a DPF so it's important to be very careful with fuelling) nor are we aggressive low down where it would cause flywheel or clutch problems. There's plenty of reviews of our tuning on the forums and we've done a PD170 for a Briskoda member this weekend, so I'll ask him to post his thoughts up if he gets chance.

I have just been to see Ben @ Shark today and all I can say is wow! I have the same car as you, PD170, and the remap doesn't do stupid things to the engine but it pulls like a train all the way through the gears now, right upto the redline, where it normally starts dropping off.

Just completed the drive back and of course, had a little play.

First thing you will notice is how much more responsive it is - the power is all the way through the rev range and it still gives you a kick in the pants when you bury the loud pedal :D I also noticed a reduction in the wheelspin I used to see. Much more linear power now,

After playing, i set it to 70 to see what the MPG was like and I noticed an increase of around 4mpg... hard to tell eactly because lots of hills and stuff, but definately an increase worth having!

Why don't cars roll off the production line like this - it feels like this how it should have always been!

All I can say it use a specialist who knows what they are doing!

Thanks Ben - top job bud :)

Andy
