just ordered my new 312mm brakes, got them for 235 includding postage of ebay which i thought was pritty good. anythin i need to know before i fit them? hints and tips please.

The only one which springs to mind is you can use your original hoses fine. Beyond that - plug & play I believe. Brake bleeding expertise useful I imagine.

am i right dot 5 is also the way to go?

dot 5 is fine, but from memory, you can get away with installing new calipers, leaving old ones hanging on the brake hose, then undo and quickly zip onto the new calipers without losing too much fluid. Then just top-up up with whatever is in there. Not 100% on that as not done a brake swap for quite some time.

dot 5 is silicon based and it will ruin the seals in your master cylinder, you need 5.1

well, when i say you need 5.1 you dont actually need it at all, you can just use normal dot 4 brake fluid but for slightly better brake performance use the dot5.1 stuff.... if you do decide to use 5.1 make sure you replace all the fluid in the entire brake/clutch system as it's not desireable to mix fluid types. you will need a pressure bleeder to bleed the clutch slave cylinder

dont forget your stack of spanners........... 7MM allan key and be carfull removing the screw to the discs as they have a tenddancy to get stuck and shred the head (like i have just done)

make sure you have to refill the master cylinder twice..
