Big Oil Leak?!

Featured Replies

I noticed my car seemed to have a slight misfire at start up, on my way home, which was "spirited" i felt a jolt in the power and after that the car would only accelerate upto about 2500rpm then the clutch would slip and the revs would jump up but no extra power, when i got home there was an oil leak coming from under the engine, i cant find where its coming from but it seemed to have lost alot of oil, i managed to get it to the garage and have left it there until it can be looked at, any ideas on what this could be? or anybody else with the same problem? thanks

turbo gone?

turbo gone?

god i hope not!

dosnt feel like it has tho, still plenty of pull from it

could it possibly be just a split hose or something easy to fix like im hoping for?

the car has done just over 73k btw incase that matters

clutch slipping suggests the oil could be leaking from the engine into the clutch housing and has contaminated the friction plates?

Yeah, that sounds like a strong possibility.

big job to fix?

Would that make it the big end bearing which was potentially knackered and leaking oil? I have to confess my internals knowledge is poor (to say the least!)

1 you will be needing a new clutch

and 2nd you need to find the leak but could be a number of things doesnt sound good !!!

Yes, I agree. Probably the oil seal on the end of the crankshaft. According to Haynes, new one comes installed on new housing and with fitting tool.

Since the clutch will need to be changed anyway, the additional work to fit the new oil seal is small in comparison.

Big end failure will make the engine knock like a bag of hammers & not cause a leak. As stated above the most likely cause of your problem will be a blown oil seal.
