Need grey yeti detail advice please

Featured Replies

Hi folks. Steel Grey Yeti on order (now called Platinum Grey I've heard). I need advice on the best stuff to keep it looking good and protected from the elements.

Here is my intention:

1 Wash (2 bucket method with grit guards and lambswool mitt using Meguirs shampoo plus)

2 Clay (Sonus SFX ultrafine green clay with Autoglym rapid detailer as lubricant)

3 Wash

4 Dry (Sonus waffleweave cloth, pat dry)

5 Polish

6 Seal

7 Wax

Not too sure about 5,6 and 7

Just need products that are relatively easy to apply and buff.

Thanks in advance

Congratulations on the Yeti, having seen many around and about on the road I think it's a great car with plenty of space inside..........

Do you have any products on your collection for stages 5, 6, 7 or are you looking to buy some new ones?

I'm looking to buy new ones. Don't know much about detailing except what I've read in this forum.

There are lots of different kinds and I find it very confusing.

Basically I just want a clean, well-protected car with not too much labour.

Thanks in advance Baker21

OK then, well I could just say go with some of the more expensive products but I am guessing your after vaule for money and something you can use in a few applications?

Polish wise, you may want to look towards something like Dodo Juice Lime Prime, good Pre-Wax Cleanser with some good cutting capabilities, have used this on a few recent details.

Sealant wise, to be honest you could combine the Sealant and Wax stages together and invest in something that you could also use on your wheels, maybe Collinte 476s or Detailing World's product of the year FK 1000p. Both of these options offer great durabiity and will withstand high temperatures for use on your wheels..........

Then if I were you I would invest in something like Megs Ultimate Quik Detailer to add on top now and again to keep that edge of protection to the Wax you have applied, if your feeling flush then get some Z8!!

My personal preference would be the Zaino system and I have done this on many 'new car details' it's a great base with Z-AIO, Z6, then your sealant Z2, Z6 and followed by your spray sealant Z8. This is what I have on my motor and all I do now is rinse, wash with the 2BM, rinse, dry using Megs Last Touch and then apply some Z8, beading is still there months down the line and it looks super slick..........

I am sure plenty of other people will have their opinion, many will suggest AG or Megs but it's all down to you and what you can access or like the look of, plenty of threads on DW to have a look through, this may help:

Also another grey motor that wore some of the products mentioned above and applied by me is here:

Hope that helps............ :|

PS. Just detailed this weekend a 'Grey' MK5 R32 owned by another forum member using Dodo Juice Lime Prime and Super Natural so watch out for that this week once I have posted up the detail thread..........

Thanks very much for the detailed info Baker21. I also liked the DW thread about the nimbus grey polo as my wife is waiting for hers to arrive in September.

From what I saw during the detail it's another great VAG motor...........

I'd be tempted to go for AG SRP and then two coats of their HD wax, if your unsure of using a paste wax, then Collinite 845IW might be easier as its a sort of gel or custard type consistancy. Make sure you work the SRP well in, in small sections. Also add a QD such as Last Touch or even AG Aquawax as a wipe down to avoid water spots.

I am doing a Mazda RX8 which is a grey colour this weekend, it will be machined but for the finish I am using Clearkote products for a really wet shine.
