Rear Anti-Roll Bar

Featured Replies

Morning all, I "require " a rear anti roll bar for my VRS as Im getting a bit tired of the inherent understeer that our cars suffer from. I've used the search facility and the Whiteline ones seem to be the best value. Where is the best place to purchase one and should I go for the 22mm or 24mm adjustable? I dont intend on tracking the car and from reading the comments some are saying the 24mm bars produce a lot more oversteer. Is this dangerous on the road?

Both are adjustable so you can ease them off if they feel a bit stiff but we usually say stick with the 22mm when running a standard front and just road use and go for the 24mm to match an uprated front and the occasional track day.

Cheers Damian. Do you have any at the moment? If I did go for a 24mm and set it to its least stiff setting (with a view to perhaps fitting coilovers at a later date) would it be unruly in the wet?

I phoned the other day and was told they have about 3 weeks until they get the next lot in.

I'm going for an adjustable 22mm one on mine as it's only for road use and still have the 19mm one on the front. I was a bit concerned come the winter if I had a 24mm one even on the lightest setting it would be a nightmare in bad weather.

Good point re: winter. Im swaying more towards 22mm at the moment. Unless someone can convince me to get the 24mm.

Just ordered a 22m adjustable

i ran a 25mm rear with standard front for about 2 years and in no way it was unruly in the wet, this is a misconseption and im not sure why???

The guy I spoke to at Balance Motorsport seemed to think (as Damian mentioned) that a 22m was fine with a 19mm standard front and standard suspension (as I have on mine) As for losing it in the wet with a thicker bar its apparently down to "lifting off mid corner" where the problems can arise, but then its not advisable to do that in most cars in the wet!

Damian is a good guy and knows his stuff as do Balance, the 22mm is fine, however as i stated before the 25mm bar works perfectly with a standard front, the only issue is as stated lift off oversteer which you can do in any car (including standard setup) if pushed far enough and nothing to do with the thickness of the bar not matching the front.

Anyone reading this thread at a later date might think the eibach/neuspeed/autotech 25mm bars are not safe owhen matched to the standard front arb, and thats not correct at all, thats the point im trying to make.

Agree there buddy,

The improvement of a RARB is a great addition to the Octy chassis. The only point i can make is that based upon my own driving and in standard trim chassis the 22mm was perfect. When i fitted a stronger / thicker Front ARB (Golf R32) the effects were noticable on the rear of the car. not making the rear loose grip in any way, but previously i used to feel the RARB dig in very well. I am going to go for a thicker RARB now, maybe 24mm Whiteline or bigger.

But as sweedish stated none on these bars regardless of thickness cause bad handling or car to loose grip.

So my whiteline 22mm will be removed in due course.

Damian when are the 24mm whitelines in stock buddy.

Cheers

Mark.

Looking at around 3-4 weeks at the moment but we do however have the Eibach 25mm rear bars in stock.

My 22mm Whiteline RARB has been on been on since 2008, totally transformed the handling for the better.

NB: When fitting use plenty of copper grease on the RARB mounting bushes, not the supplied grease, result = no squeeking, yet!! (touch wood).
