Scout questions, help please

Featured Replies

Hi, I need a few questions answered and I'd be eternally grateful if someone could help.

1) The dash on the Scout has a button with a green light for slippery conditions. The button has a car swerving lit up in green. The Skoda dealer told me not to press it as it helps with slippery conditions. The button doesn't seem to do anything as far as I can see. If I press it then the green light is still on and I haven't really noticed any change in the drive quality. What on earth is this button for and how do I know if it is on or off if the green light is continually on?

2) My right beam on dipped Xenon lights seems to be longer than the left. It just doesn't seem balanced. Is this a normal thing as the car is left hand drive?

3) How on earth do I store the correct radio stations on the stereo that comes with the Skoda? I press the AS button and it automatically stores the stations for me but I can't seem to store individual stations. I can probably solve this last query myself and this comes from sheer laziness.

Thanks in advance.

Just tune to the station you want then press and hold the button you want to store it on for a few seconds

I think 2 is normal also as here where we have left hand drive its the other way round ie the left one is longer to help see pedestrians etc.

Dont have a scout so dont know about number 1

Hey, thanks a lot for answering so quickly. The radio question seems so easy now and I'm glad to know that my lights are ok. I was worried I'd have to put the car into the Skoda garage for a week.

You've been a real help, Dallan.

Now, does anyone know about query number one? Anyone?

What year is your Scout?

Mine is a 2008 pre-facelift.

I've sat in the new model and don't remember any extra buttons.

Are you sure its not the regular ESP button as pictured?

If not where abouts is the button, can you post a picture?

Hi, sorry, I haven't got a picture but it's not that button. It's on that row but the far left. Mine is a 2010 Octavia Scout.

Thanks for your time.

I really have no idea, I've checked all UK Scouts on the Skoda website and none of them have anything other than ESP.

Looking at the options list I also can't see any option that would require a button in that location.

I see you are in Greece. Maybe Greek specification Scouts are different?

A picture would really help!

My 2010 Octavia Scout has this button - it is the one that turns off traction control. It used to be marked ESP in older cars but the newer ones has a picture of a car skidding instead. As I understand it it does exactly the same as the old ESP button, only the marking has changed.

It doesn't turn off everything in the ESP system, just the traction control I believe. The manual states to only use it if you need to have the wheels spinning to get out of a situation where you have no grip.

In the UK right-hand drive model it's on the far-right, in exactly the same position as the ESP switch in the above photo. I imagine in a left-hand drive car it would be on the far left.

In operation, you press it, and then the corresponding picture of a skidding car lights up in the instrument panel (the actual button doesn't change). You press it again to to turn traction control back on. I think it resets when you turn the ignition off.

Yes the ESP system was upgraded late last year (WK45/09 I think) on all Skoda cars with the exception of the Yeti which already had this from production start. Can now only disable traction control rather than both traction and ESP hence the change in symbol, also helps identify which car has what system. Idea is to improve safety I believe.
