Any ideas? whining , high pitch sound

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I'm running a Jabba'd vrs 53 plate. Just recently Under load, and when the turbo is spooling and boosting, I get a high pitch whine, which changes in pitch with slight movements of the accelerator pedal, which is making me think turbo?

Intercooler is a Pro alloy one,

Any Ideas,

Cheers

EDIT: Forgot to mention, Turbo to intercooler pipe blew off last night, noise was present before this, and when i put the pipe back on the noise is still there.

standard turbo, Dyno run @ Jabba showed 295 bhp , not quite sure how.

Really hope it isnt the turbo. It does it only when in gear, and accelerating, also sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesnt. Seems to dissapear after 10-15 mins of driving, but can sometimes come back.

I think their rollers must be a bit optimistic!

If it's not making the noise all the time (when boosting) then possibly not the turbo. Has it been fault code scanned? And have you checked all the other hose connections?

I had an issue with the dv, which whined a bit on boost. Turns out the spring wasn't strong enough. What dv do you have? I have a compbrake one.

Cant remember which DV, will check that tomorrow,. All the other hose connections are good. Havent had it scanned for faults, I have a mate at a vw garage, so I'll get it checked for faults ... Its a strange fault. i suppose its time.. it has done 180k and this is the only problem its ever had, in its life

I had this (and a friend also!) when the throttle body wasn't properly secured (bolts were not tight enough) OR the throttle body gasket wasn't fitted properly, e.g. had a clipped corner. This allowed some very small amount of air to escape which made this horrifying sound (both of us thought the turbo had gone, but wasn't the case). Worth a look!
