9mm EGR gasket

Featured Replies

Hi

Today I cleaned the EGR valve on my wifes 2006 fabia vrs (BLT engine) to try and eliminate a slight hesitation it has on a very light throttle opening.

I was supprised not to find a 9mm modified gasket fitted to the EGR valve......so have ordered one from TPS (my local dealer said, Skoda wont sell them any more !!!)

But now I'm wondering if I was looking in the wrong place for the modified gasket ???

So....does anyone know where Skoda would have fitted the modified gasket ie; at the EGR valve or the exhaust manifold.

Thanks

Bill.

would av thort at the exhaust take off end...why modify the gasket to rectify the prob? just disconnect the egr valve by removing and plugging the rubber vacuum pipe.

Have a read of this

Wouldn't that bring up a warning lamp on the dash?

Been trying to do this fix to my vRS for nearly two weeks.

Nearest VW dealership is an Arnold Clark, went in on Monday two weeks ago, got told by the guy sitting underneath the 'parts and service' sign that the parts guy was on holiday today.

Phoned through the order the next day, got phoned back an hour later saying the number was wrong, I quoted an R at the end instead of a B, but given that I also described exactly what part I was looking for I thought the 'parts guy' would have managed to fill in that blank.

I have now gone back to these jokers three times to try and collect the part and in order.

Same guy I encountered beneath the parts and service desk, 'parts guy is away on his lunch, will be back in 45 minutes'.

Same guy again 'parts guy has finished early today won;t be back till tomorrow

Different guy, woo hoo maybe this is this legendary parts guy... nope 'parts is closed today, did no one tell you?'

Is the EGR gasket a mystic part that can only be handed over by a chosen master of the gasket? Did anyone else have as much trouble getting hold of this frankly close to legendary vehicle part. Will I get some sort of ethereall music sent from the heavens when the part is finally handed over, should I wear my finest clobber for it?

I got one easily for mine but that was back in the day, well 2007 before Skoda caught on. Follow the link above to fabiavrs.com and you'll get an explanation - euroIV compliance and all that.

There was a massive thread on this before Briskoda died and was born again as it is now. Looks like TPS is where you need to go - you know its part from ASZ engine code you need yes?

I have 65000K miles on my car now and no stuttering or CEL for over 50K ish.

Is that a definite? NO exhaust gas recirculated if you remove and plug the rubber pipe? Seems to make an EGR power pipe obsolete?

Yes, if you remove the vacuum to the EGR you get zero EGR function. It does throw up a CEL though after a few mies. This can be mapped out by a tuner though. ASZ engine has two vacuum lines, one is for EGR the other for ASV which should remain connected. BLT has electrical ASV so only one vacuum line to worry about.

Laughingman: I got the 9mm gasket from my local dealer a few weeks back no probs, if your having trouble getting one I'll get one and post it if you like ?

I fitted mine in the location by the airbox as recommended on fabiavrs.com and the difference the little gasket has made to the drive of the car is absolutly fantastic :)

Good news..... the modified gasket has worked a treat

After fitting the new 9mm gasket to the manifold end of the EGR pipe, I then went for a very enjoyable 10 mile stutter free drive tonight :)

I'd have thought by now that all these BLT powered fabia vRS's would have had the gaskets changed ??? maybe this one slipped through the net.

Thanks JulieD for the link, it was really helpful

Thanks for that! Guess what I'm going to be trialling over the next few days? I have read on here that a golf tee is good for bunging up the pipe - shame I dont play golf, have to have a rummage round see what can find.

VRS180 well done on the gasket fix, its such a relief when that stutter goes away!
