How often do you change your oil and filter?

Featured Replies

Just interested in learning whether other vRS owners rigidly stick to their service intervals and how often you change your oil etc?

I change my oil about 6-8 times a year. Air and fuel filters are done every 3 months. Mostly do it myself but sometimes a garage(which is when its stamped). I'm fast running out of space on my service book..only got 2 sheets left. Can another service book be bought?

are prospective buyers likely to see an extensively serviced car as a good or bad thing? (i'm not looking to sell but am thinking in 4-5..maybe 6 years even)

Its an 05 plate and i've owned it since 2008. i do 18-20k miles a year.

You change your oil every 2500 miles? Stop wasting your money. Oh, and reduce the filter changes as well :smirk:

In our old Fabia it got changed once a year when it went for a service, but we only do about 3000 miles a year so it was fine.

Every 6 months or so  every 2500 miles does seem a tad much tbh :wonder:

I change the oil and filter every 5k.

Long Life oil is supposed to be good for 18.5k miles, so I do it every 9-10k miles with an oil filter.

Oil and filter changed on annual service. 6000 miles per year. Petrol 16v twin cam.

Currently blowing oil at prediguous rate so getting 1 litre top-up every 2 months (capacity 3.25 litres)

I think i've spent too much time reading the oil bible as it does mention regular oil changes help prolong engine and turbo life and thats what i want to do.

Dont really see it as wasting money.

I just like my oil to look :giggle: clean

The oil bible and other writings would also have told you that diesel oil goes black within a few hundered mils of being changed.

At work we can have oil analysed for properties compared to new. A few years back I had a sample checked every 1000 miles.

I now run the oil for 6000 miles without issues - but I do change filters at 3000.

You shouldn't have bought a diesel then :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:

What I call overkill, Oil in diesel engines will never look clean, but it will still do it's job for a good 10k.

I change mine every 10K or yearly as per service schedule, thats on a highly tuned fabia also.

Fuel filter every 20K and air filter every 10K.

Isnt the fuel filter to be changed the same as the air filter every 40k ish?

Changing the fuel filter every 3 months is madness! Why bother?

Some people have got too much spare cash me thinks!

The mongrel gets new oil every 7k or so. I might cut it short if I've done a trackday or two though. :)

I change it at 5k, then garage to get it stamped at 10k. Me at 5k, garage 10k etc etc

I know it goes black but at this point in time, when I checked it yesterday it wasn't that black...more dark brown and i've noticed it has stayed that color more and more often with each oil change I do.

I had an oil analysis done last month and the properties indicated very little wear.

I've also got into the habit of doing oil changes...last car i owned did 245k before it was sold. Still going strong i hear.

EVERY 5K, Its always good to keep things happy inside!

Years ago, the Vauxhall tuner Bill Bydenstein wrote an article for Performance Car or similar.

He claimed the best way to extend the life of your engine was with oil changes every 3k miles with filter changes once a year. It's like having a regular blood transfusion! I've done this on all my cars with quality oil, though not necessarilly with the most expensive one.

Sure there is an argument for long-life oils and wasting money but as car enthusiasts who look after them it's a labour of love!

Not a vRS, but the cousin to it (PD100) - every 4-5,000 miles (once every 6 months) for me, as I do mostly shorter journeys.

Both of my parents' petrols have been serviced in a similar manner, and both are just under 200,000 miles with no engine problems...

Im every 5k

oil and filter package from opie oils, fully synth

cant go wrong

every 6k or thereabouts emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Every 6 months - Fully synthetic oil can only be good for the engine & turbo

I have read 10K on Fully synthetic oil intervals is a good service interval

Every 10k when the service is due for mine
