Window opening overnight !

Featured Replies

Any one gone to their Yeti in the morning and found their driver window wide open, mine was this morning after heavy rain, not good, I have had this happen before and thought stupid barsteward leaving the window open , now I am certain I am not leaving the window open.

Just for information purposes, and not suggesting its the reason for the above. If you keep the unlock button pressed on the key, all the windows will open and the opposite for the lock button.

Just tried that function Ray it does exactly you as have said, Had no idea you could do this, never to old to learn new tricks. Will pop in to see my stealer this morning, Their thoughts will probably be " Silly old fool leaving the windows open". Will get Mrs MB to certify windows are closed , or set a camcorder up to see if window magically opens !!

The key fob open all windows as I have learnt today, yes having the key fob in your pocket whilst playing pocket billiards in probably not a good idea.

My father in law had this problem and it was tracked down to key in pocket! :giggle:

As an aside it is amazing how far away the remote will work.

Car was parked near the beach at Bamborough when on holiday and my daughter went back to get something she had forgotten. We were a long way from the car and I kept pressing the button as we walked along the beach towards it. (On lock so it would not end up stuck open) and it responded at least 300m away. I was then able to stay there watch her walk to the car, open it when she arrived, and then lock again.

Only issue was the passersby who decided to approach her and ask how much she liked her car, assuming she must have unlocked it!

So take note you can easily lock or unlock the car, open the windows etc from a very long distance away.

Its a good job the Yeti locks itself, if the doors have not been opened within 15 seconds.

I've now found mine with a lowered rear offside window twice on the same day. Wasn't they keys nor a case of leaving one open in the rain.. (especially as it's behind the drivers door). Performed a full system reset on the computer and touching wood it's not done it again!.

My best car was a VW 412 le . wind up windows. Bosch fuel injection, first VW with mcpherson's struts, petrol fuel pre heater with timer so you could get into a warm car, if it didn't blow up first !!

I had this problem several times with my last Octavia. There is no doubt that on two occasions I did it by pressing the remote by accident.

But, a single window operating mysteriously is unlikely to be caused by this. There has been suspicion in the past that damp conditions inside the door can be the culprit - there is further info on this in Honest John's website (sorry, I don't know where exactly, but a search on his site should easily find it) - I believe it potentially applies to all VAG cars. I note you said it had been raining heavily............?

Good luck!

This was a classic fault on the MINI when the car was first launched in 2001,the fault was traced to a control unit somewhere in the footwell area which was getting an ingress of water. If you are getting this fault after heavy rain I do not think this is a coincidence.Have heard people with the new Scirocco having similair problems.

I'm glad to see this has happened to other people.

I found all four windows on my Yeti open yesterday too.

I have the "advantage" however of having previously owned a Proton which could lock and unlock itself just by shaking the remote, so the first thing I looked at was the remote and that was when I discovered the "hold down button" option.

I guess now I'll have to do some range tests on the remote just to see when it's safe to put it in my pocket!

Had a "single window down" problem with my Seat Toledo - passenger window would drop overnight.

Turned out it was a faulty part of the rear passenger door central locking system.

As they're all CANBUSsed together, it was causing a problem elsewhere - the downside of multiplexing !

Tip to extend the range of your central locking plipper - hold it to the side of your head (and open your mouth if you want to look really stupid...).

Have just used this repeatedly on our other car in the Loire - full window drop from further away gives the interior a little more time to cool.

Not had the window down issue, but have had my electric driver's seat in my Superb change position when i was doing the weekly shop.

When i went back to the car, the drivers seat was almost fully forward and the back was raised - it's only done it once, but it was within the 1st few weeks of ownership, so was off putting.

Thank for your help guys booked in tomorrow , watch this space when it rains again.

I think I know what's happening here.

Using the remote locking, "Plipper", hold down the unlock button for about five seconds ... on most Yetis, all four windows will open. Hold the lock button for the same length of time and the windows will close again.

While playing about today after speaking to other Yeti owners, I discovered a setting in the MFD which allows only the drivers window to open, of to disable this function.

Now, I know how easy it is to accidentally open the windows if I stick the remote in my pocket - my MFD is set to "All Four" - it's worth a try for those of you who have the drivers windows open in the morning - check the MFD settings before reporting it to your dealer - it can be disabled if necessary!

The key opening setting is disabled, since the dealer checked things over only had one window malfunction I unlocked as i walked towards the car when i got to the car the offside front and rear windows were halfway open.Dealer had another look and we found that if you turn the key in the door Lock and hold it four windows will open in spite of the dealer disabling the key function, therefore the four window opening is deactivated via the key fob , but is still active on the car, therefore could still malfunction, watch this space
