Just bought some new tyres

Kumho KU31's 225 45 R17

Cant believe how quiet they are! Got rid of my mish mash of Federal, Bridgestone, Pirelli and Dunlop.

I bought them because of good reviews and quiet noise levels, but these are crazy quiet, although I have been used to the drone of the crappy Federal tyre.

Admitedly I have only driven 10 miles in them so far. Car is a lot nicer to drive though (goes in a straight line now for a start).

If they give decent mileage as well im a happy bunny

I had them on mine, for the price etc they are good tryes, with good grip too, mine lasted around 6 months doing 450-500m a week, iv since changed to Avon ZV5 and i just got 9 months with the same miles

Yes, I had those from Black Circles. They're OK. I now have 4 x Nexens fitted as they were considerably cheaper on an offer from Black Circles. So far, quite happy with them too.

You won't be when the rain comes Fred, they're shocking.

Fine so far, but I am not a fast driver anyway so I'm unlikely to notice, but I'll bear it in mind, thanks for the warning.

Kumhos seem decent in the rain, inspire a lot more confidence than some wanlies I had a while ago.

On the same subject, after doing a LOT of research, I have settled with German ADAC test results (independent), picking their top choice in 225/45r17 size which were PIRELLI P7 CINTURATO tyres. Best for fuel economy (lowest rolling resistance), excellent dry and wet grip and low tread wear. Not cheap, but did manage to negotiate a discount so got them for only 105 quid each, and am VERY please with them. Extremely quiet at speed, grip is excellent, really have all the best to say about them. have just covered 4000 miles of continental driving in the last month, and could not be happier. Better then the Michelin Primacy tyres I had before. Have even spotted an extra couple of mpg at low speeds.

interesting in-depth test on quality tyres in last week's Autocar (18 Aug) - including this size...

I know this is an old thread but I just bought some new Avon ZV5's off ebay on a bit of a whim (they were a bargain) I have previously had Continentals but switched to Nexens more recently. I am hoping I will not be disappointed with the Avons...

They are extra load tyres (94) does anyone know if this is recommended for the Superb or would 91 rating be enough ?

Also will it take run flats ?

I still need a couple of tyres for rears and would prefer to keep the same pattern so am looking for part worn .

I am going for 94 rating from now on as i have found my P7 Cinturato 91Y tyres have been mullered by fully later autobahn driving. They overheat, centre part flexes out and wears in the middle, and they also turn into a giant 50p coin hence becoming very noisy - to start of with they were fantastic tyres though. 94 load rating for me from now on (mind you mine is a 2.5 auto so heavy front).

I just got some Michelin Pilot Sport 3's on the car - much quieter and better ride / grip than what was fitted (Continental on the back, Fulda on the front). My previous experience of Michelin showed them to last ages, so I'll be interested to see how these cope on the Superb. They were only £99.50 each on offer from a local tyre place http://www.kirkleyty...ndwheels.co.uk/ ; proper old school changing tyres using trolley jacks...!

Plus they spotted the split CV gaiter; Skoda dealer managed to put it through repair on warranty for me. Saving more money still!

I did exactly the same on my old Octavia - went from Federal to Kumho KU31s.

Like you say, the difference was night and day. As soon as the tyres are due for change on the Superb (currently Goodyear on the rears and Event on the front) I'll be getting Kumhos again, or maybe Hankooks.

BTW - I never noticed the Kumhos were poor in the rain, and in fact a tyre test by Auto Express a couple of years ago found them to be one of the best in the wet :)

Not sure I'd be sticking Kumho on mine...

As it state's, scandal, no doubt started by a company trying to sell more, China's tyre's are a different spec to ours anyway, Michelin by the way in the USA have just recalled 75000 tyre's as they may delaminate and blow out, Goodyear workers are on short time so as they don't stock pipe, so they are all struggling for sales at present, more people trying budget's I guess. .
