Cost of a vRS front bumper?

Featured Replies

I've just discovered the vRS SE I bought last week has a badly damaged front bumper - it's hit something underneath and broken. I only noticed it when I dropped something under the car and had to lie down on the ground to retrieve it - I was shocked to see the damage which isn't readily noticeable from normal eye level - and I wouldn't have expected to have had to inspect the underside of the car in the showroom. As well as fracturing at the impact point it's slightly distorted the plastic towards the centre cracking the paint and the two fins above have detached. I've sent an email to the supplying garage who sold me what they themselves described as a "mint condition" car asking for it to be repaired - I suspect I'll have to visit them to show them the problem in detail.

So I was wondering what the cost of a new vRS front bumper painted in metallic Race Blue and fitted is - for the "discussion". Any ideas?

Thanks - but what I'm after is the sum I'd have to quote if I took it to an independent bodyshop and said "replace the bumper" then pursue a claim, if it comes to that...

Whilst I can sort of see their point of view in respect of the scraped alloy that they've already been advised about and refused to replace (see my other thread in "wanted") and the slight ding in the sill (which they've also refused to do anything about but have agreed to supply a touch-up stick free of chage) I don't believe I should reasonably have spotted this damage when inspecting the car and certainly it doesn't accord with their advertised "mint condition" in the Autotrader advert and at their website - both of which I fortunately PDFed before they disappeared...

Get a Cupra R Lip it should hide the scratches under the car, if the bumper is scratched visibly it maybe cheaper just to get a respray.

IMO Nobody looks under the car so its pointless replacing if thats the only scratched bit.

Please note I'm not interested in changing the car at all - I bought it as a well preserved vRS SE - which clearly it's not... Even the salesman was going on about it being "collectable" and would retain its value well after three more years if I kept it in good order.

LOL about it being collectable! I'd personally put a splitter on it and ignore the scrapes unless you can see them from eye level - I guess the dealer will try and blame you for damaging it and get nowhere! :(

Well no one came close to answering my question and it's now irrelevant anyway since the dealer has undertaken to organise a full professional repair of the existing one. Thread closed...

Um yes they did - Leon-y-k said £250 or there abouts. I would have thought slightly more nearer £200 :( :)

I was going to say it would be easier to get a bodyshop to just heat-repair any distortions and blow over that area with some fresh paint - £100 at most, I would say £75 is pushing it :) As long as they get the edge right as that's about the only bit I reckon you could see from normal standing height, stood 10 foot from the car?

i dont even have that bit of my bumper, its cut away for a mahoosive FMIC!!

lol, not needed

I was lucky mine sat flush with the "floor" of the inside of the bumper

I did wonder what affect that inch long downward pointing strip had an aerodynamics, etc? I got tempted to cut mine off recently but it is still there. Couldn't imagine it helps airflow under the car?

mines is long gone, fmic hangs about 5-10mm out past bumper, lcr splitter hides it anyway

That is not the point.

The fact is that I bought a second-hand car at a high price from a dealer that was described as being in "mint condition". I had three or four options - get the dealer to replace it or otherwise repair it, get someone else to repair it and claim the monies back from the dealer, or reject the car.

A proper repair will cost MUCH more than you're quoting - I've been advised £200+vat to fill a small dent in the cill and repaint - the bumper is much more damaged

Cill is metal and bumper is plastic. Easier to repair the bumper.

But the principle I agree with - They should have done an underside inspection on a lift as part of their pre-sale checks, and seen the bumper damage and got it repaired.

JESUS YOU GOT ABUSED WITH THAT PRICE !

i had a rear quarter on a citroen c2 gt fitted and a full back end re spray for £500 ,

so i am guessing on that to be about £100 tops to be repaired and sprayed,

In 2004 I reversed into the path of a car and caused a small dent in its rear wing with my bumper - which was undamaged. The insurance claim for the other car was £1400 of which the repair was £600 - for something which didn't damage anything else merely dented the wing slightly - and the courtesy car hire was £800...

tbh you've bought a used car....

if you didn't want scrapes etc then buy a new one....

you obviously checked it over before you bought it... Its under the car and its hardly integral

think you're being a bit melodramatic

I have persuaded the garage to do a full professional repair. I don't see why that's being "melodramatic" at all.

you've been lucky there

It's my regular Skoda dealer - I went to them because they were cheaper than the closest but they're also generally better...

If the garage are doing it no questions asked ,then maybe they already knew and were hoping that you wouldn't notice ,but at least it is getting done so all is good.

you've been lucky there

The car was described as "mint condition" - commonly understood as meaning "as new" - in the advert - this means that there should not be any scratches/scrapes/etc - if there are, then it is "not as described" - see Sales of Goods and Services Act, and Trades Descriptions Act. The only issue is proving that it was supplied like that, and that you haven't done it after picking the vehicle up.

That looks like the bottom of my front bumper, mine was self inflicted due to been lowered though. You should just lower yours and put a splitter on it, overall it will look better.

Joking aside, glad you got it fixed and even though its not possible to see it unless looking under the car i agree the car wasnt as described.
