Anyone ever see this tyre wear!

Featured Replies

Rear wheel, couldn't believe it when i saw it! Funnily it's not worn like that on the whole circumference only part..

That looks more like it has been rubbing at some time and then worn down after that.

seems common on the mk5 platform, mines does this too, even though Ive had it alligned twice by 2 different places! there are revised camber settings on octavia-vrs.com

Mine had similar wear and was put in to have everything checked out, apparently there was a modification done on the rear suspension for the '06. The units were replaced as mine was all over the place on alignment. it was going through rear tyres quicker then fronts.

Eeek!!

Can you take some more pics, also with the wheel off? That certainly is not normal at all, even if suspension was at the 'old' unrevised settings!!!

I would go as far to say that it is either a faulty tyre, or it has very strange tread

You can see that the remaining tread looks like a normal pattern for the edge of a tyre, but that band looks like a flat lip, almost like the tread has moved across the carcass of the tyre??

You say that this band does not go round the whole circumference? If that's the case, unless the tyre is very far from round (and wobbling like a shimmying fat bird at a disco) then it cannot be rubbing against something? I would go for a faulty tyre.

Get it off ASAP. How long has it been on? Did you get it fitted? Was it a budget tyre? Tell us more!

I would say that something has been rubbing against the tyre. That is more than wear due simply to incorrect camber.

Defective tyre?What make is it?

Yeah, I'd 3rd the defective tyre suggestion if it isn't the same al the way round! But more info is needed! Are you on standard offset wheels, have you made any mods to the suspension do you tow????

What ever, Get it changed ASAP!

Could it be partly badly out of balance ?? If camber ot track are out the wear is normally even around the tyre.

They can be quite bad on the back before you notice vibration but the tyre will wear unevenly, Ive had it.

Do you drive enthusiastically, does it do track days

I would take it to a decent tyre company for an opinion but certainly get it changed

It's a Federal S95. Surely if something was rubbing i would have heard it especially with that damage? If it was camber would it not have to be at a fierce angle to cause that lip?

I'm guessing a strip of rubber came away then wore smooth? Car is standard suspension and wheels.

You could be right, but its hard to from just looking at the picture. Not got a broken rear sping have you? Years ago I saw something similar on an Alfa - spring had broken and moved a bit and was cutting away at the tyre. You would hear it though.

Did a quick google search for Federal S95 tyre failure

Didnt go through all the posts but read the last one on here, seems it may be a problem with tyre design, note his 3 ended up in blowouts,
