Can't believe my insurance renewal!

Featured Replies

Agreed on the advanced driving test, the cost of the course pays for itself in insurance saving eventually.

I'm an advanced driving instructor and have done many advanced courses of car control etc, not only do I enjoy teaching the techniques, all of my students love the course.

Go for it dude!!

i will be going on my own insurance in september and the lowest i found just by looking on go compare was £1100 for a vRS, thats for a 21 year old guy, with no 'no claims', no fines, no claims and 4 years driving. i was slightly suprised as i was expecting a mega bill (not saying that i can easily shell out £1100 notes all the time but compared with the thread starters comment, im quite pleased. should decrease if i shop around and phone places too i believe

i will be going on my own insurance in september

If you are the main driver of a car on your parent's insurance then this is known as fronting and considered insurance fraud. Not a telling off as lots of people do it and see it as "normal". More a warning that insurance companies take a dim view of it and are making more effort these days to stop it. Plus in the event of a claim your parents and you can end up in a lot of trouble if found out.

What is perfectly acceptable, however, is to add your parents to your policy as named drivers (even if they have cover to drive other vehicles and will never drive it) as this can bring down the cost quite a bit.

Did i ever say that i am the main driver of the car? The car is my dads and insured in his name, i am a named driver on his policy. The car will be transfered into my name as my dad is getting a new car in september, and i will then be insuring the fabia in my name as i will be the only user. Assumptions arn't always the best thing

Just to add my 2pence:-

My insurance renewal has just come through - and surprise of surprises - its exactly the same price as last year - £371 inc all mods declared.

If that wasnt good enough - same insurance company also insures my other car - £221 with all mods declared!

Just got my renewal through from flux and guess what, its changed by £200.

Think there must be a mistake though as its not £200 more, it's £200 less!!!

I'm still gonna shop around though to see if I can get it cheaper :giggle:

Me- 37years old, !8 years full licence. 10 years ncb

Mrs Grr- 27 years years old. 2 years full licence.

We live in Essex.

We have a multicar policy ffrom Admiral.

Car 1 is the TIE interceptor :p Car 2 is a Fabia SDI.

£850 Full comp, both cars can be driven by either of us.

Courtesy car, £150 excess. Cheap as chips really ;)

Interestingly, when we first got the SDI we were getting quotes circa the £1200 mark

to insure just the Mrs to drive tit. Multicar has saved us bundles. Both cars

come in at way under £500 quid each per year fully comp.

As some of you may know I'm about to move to Bristol, should be there already

but my house buyers pulled out with 2 days to go :swear:

By then we had already changed the insurance to the mother in laws address

in anticipation of the move. Got a cheque last week for a £120 rebate due to

Bristol being a better postcode. So next renewal I'm expecting it to be around the

£700- £750 mark. For two cars I think thats a great deal.

Try LV they were cheapest for me, and I'm a fairly high risk postcode.

Went with Sky again this year, but the price was the same, £300 + £100 excess. Had hoped it had gone down as I had an accident in the Mrs' Teg in 2007, but nope. Maybe in a couple of years time when I don't have to declare it, it might.

Do you guys tell your insurer if you change jobs duing the year?

you should be glad you managed to get it around the same price as last year, insurance has rocketed in priced recently with most people paying at least £100 more than last year it seems

I'm 31, have a VRS, live in swansea (not good for insurance), park it on the road, do 30,000 miles a year (inc. business), have 9 years no claims and am insured with swiftcover for £367

Renewed mine last week from Liverpool Vic. Full Comp. plus one named driver all for £202.00p
