New altenator pully?

Featured Replies

I have recently fitter a new drive belt as the one which was fitted squeeled like hell on warm up (5 mins or so). Annoyingly a new belt hs not solved the problem, I guess the pully is worn?? The alternator works fine so I dont want to replace the whole thing, is it possibly to replace just the pully or is this a factory only fit? Or does any one know any ace tips for stopping the squeel? Cracking an egg in it etc? pritt stick?

Pulleys can usually be removed using a ring spanner and an allen key (to hold the shaft still) or an impact gun.

I've roughened polished ones up before - not a lot, just a bit of abrasion to take the shine off.

You can indeed replace the pulley and I had it done on my octy due to the internal clutch failing.

you sure it's not the power steering pump pulley making the noise?

How do I know if its the steering pump of the alternator? Can I replace the pully on the steering pump?

Alternator one will squeal more when you put more load on the electrics (heater on, lights on, heated rear screen, etc), steering one when on full lock.
