Longlife oil change to normal oil..

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Was gonna pick up a new oil filter and some Comma Syner-g 5w40 oil, but i noticed that my service book lists the car as having the long service peroid with the long life oil. It has been serviced by the same garage, Skoda dealer since new.

My question is really....Is it fine to swap the longlife oil (presume thats still in there) for normal oil mentioned above? Would it need a full flush thru with some sort of cleaner first?

I presume the service light interval thing wont be a problem so long as i remember to change the oil/filter every year.

EDIT: found this quote on Comma web site "Meets requirements of: MB 229.1, VW 502.00/505.00, BMW Longlife 98, Porsche"

Hi Richie,

There is no need to flush the engine or anything like that. You don't need to bother resetting the service light either. Just wait for it to come up next and reset it with the dash buttons, which will automatically change it a a fixed interval amended service schedule (Known as a QG2 schedule, the oil and filter changes will be annual, everything else will be longlife).

And oil wise, as long as it states VW502.00, 503.00 or 504.00 it will be fine. (503.00 and 504.00 are both longlife and expensive).

I just get the oil from the dealers. £20 for 5l.

Which oil do they supply and which dealer is that?

I have always used Quantum Synta 10w-40. 5-Litres for £12.95p from AVS, Norfolk. If it's good enough for VAG it's good enough for me.

It's the same stuff as hussarman said,

Quantum synta etc etc 5w40 fully synth. £20 ish from dm keith skoda in huddersfield.

I assume you mean you're switching from longlife (variable) servicing to normal time/date servicing?

Yup, would prefer an oil change a little more regular then the longlife stuff.
