New iMac but is it worth…

Featured Replies

I never use Windows, and can't think of one good reason why I would, so if anyone can persuade me otherwise please do. :smirk:

The reason I'm asking is, I've just bought a new (used) iMac, Core 2 Duo, 2.66 Ghz, 320GB memory, because my old G4 iMac, 700Mhz just wasn't doing it for me anymore, and it's full to bursting with stuff. I do a bit of freelance magazine production/design/layout work at home and it's taking me twice as long to work at home as it does in my day job with new iMacs.

Anyway, the shop I'm buying from is offering to install Windows 7 via Bootcamp if I want. I understand it might need a 50GB partition, so that will take the memory down to 270GB, but that's not a major loss. I just don't know if it's worth installing?

I suppose I can leave it on there and just delete it and repartition if I need to, but why put it on in the first place if I'll never use it? On the other hand, it's FREE

Aaaarrrrrrrghhhhhhh, so confused :S

Can anyone help?

I have Windows on mine and never really use it. The only reason it was on Bootcamp was to do IE testing as I'm a web designer. But I use VMWare more often now rather than booting into it.

If you have no reason to use it, I'd leave it off. It just takes up space and leaves an annoying disk mounted on your desktop.

That's the answer I was looking for

Thanks mate – I was close to just flipping a coin ;)

I only have Windows on VMWare for VCDS, ETKA and a couple of work programs that are win only. Otherwise i wouldn't use it.

I have found all the Apple alternatives do the job i need just as well for me.
