Colour coded door handles

Featured Replies

How much should it cost for the 4 handles to be removed, painted etc and re fitted on my vRS. Someone quoted £210 which i thought was a bit much?

Cheers

depends on how long it takes to take the handles and locks/lock blanks off the doors, and put them back on again.

I had a loose lock-blank on the passenger front door, and it fell out before I could get to the garage to get it fixed.

After buying the new bits (cover plus fake barrel - about a tenner) and gettting the cover resprayed at a local place (£20) I then had to get them fitted which involved the grage taking the door to bits to make sure the fittings were all tight, and it came to over £100.

miltec do silver covers for less dont they? and they still look OEM IIRC!

EDIT: just had a look, there gash....back to square one, I think you could get it cheaper than that, if not, stick with black handles IMO, 200 is a bit much for 4 handles and if your cars metallic chances of it matching is slim.

some golf door handles fit just dependant on colour, cant remember what model golf I got ours from for the Fabia. Maybe a trip to the scrappy would work. Also MKI octavia ones fit.

my car is the collorado red. Dont think colour match would be too bad. I think ill look for a cheaper place. Was expecting more like £100?

If you can take them off put them on yourself I know someone that could do them cheap and they are very good

When you consider the amount of work involved in getting all four off, prepped, primed, painted, and refitted I don't think your £210 quote sounds unreasonable...

It's the mk 4 golf which is a direct fit.

Done mine myself also, as tech1e said, cost about £20 to do.

Do not pay more than £50 at most to have them done!!

The bodyshop only has to take them out, mount them somewhere to paint, put car back outside out of their way.

No excuse of stopping other work coming in.Should only take them an hour or two at most to do, leave to dry overnight.

I wished I lived up north sometimes! :)

£210 sounds about right I'd guess, considering the time needed to remove the handles and re-assemble.

Takes 20 mins tops to remove the 4 handles. You don't have to remove the door cards you know to remove the handles, it's just a lug and a screw/tits head.

I can't see how it's £210. Surely any professional sprayer has done hundreds of jobs like this and it wouldnt take more than 5 mins to remove each. Doesn't take a lot of prep as they are already smooth and it's not the biggest surface to spray. I'd shop about! Or even better have a mini break up here and get your handles done as well for that £210

Torx head!! I mean!!! Sorry, predictive text. Obviously my prefered word in my phones dictionary. Lol

The handle is smooth, still takes keying and plastic primer, then flat back etc.

If you look at even an hours labour then mixing paint and materials it's easy to see how they get to that price.

Oh, my bad! I assumed the door cards needed to come off, and then it was got to from the inside. Love the predictive text too. :p

Think the bodyshops up here know how tight fisted us northerners are. If they charged that much round here they wouldn't be in business. Mines off in the bodyshop on Monday for the rear end smoothing and re-spraying and a few detailing bits and thts only costing me about £150. Il have to show you at inters Ross

The process does have a lot of materials used-scotch pad, prep and blend, plastic primer, 800 sand paper, panel wipe, tac rag, base coat, maybe 2000 paper, laquer, maybe compound then polish. Still not worth £52.50 per handle though.

I paid £100 but the bodyshop ****** one door up, the handles are a nightmare and even 3 garages struggled to fix it... In the end Ali at Unit 18 had to resolve it. It's not as simple as it seems (unless you know what you're doing, but this bodyshop does thousands of cars every year and still had difficulties) so be careful.

i payed £100 for the bump strips and handles but that was mates rates dunno how much it helps
