Top Gear Yeti mpg

Featured Replies

Top Gear magazine has published an update about their long-term Yeti (September issue). All pretty positive except they quote the mpg as 24.8 for the 110 TDI 2WD. This is the same figure they quoted for it last month. Did they leave the hand brake on? Has the Stig been thrashing it round the track day and night? Has any other Yeti owner managed to get this engine to do only 24.8 mpg?

dont forget there all ex race drivers so an heavy foot is normal.....dont know about the diesel's...but my 1.2 is averaging anything from 44-late 50's.....its now on 1200 miles in 3 weeks :p

Dont forget we're talking about Top Gear here who are renowned for their lack of accuracy and impartiality (especially that imbecile Clarkson) :D

Must be using it for celebrity time trial , not a mpg nerd by any means but I would say I get 38 mpg urban 50ish long run 30ish towing caravan, cant see where the hell they get that figure from.

1600 miles so far and average 46mpg mostly urban on my 110 Tdi

I suspect it's a typo, maybe 42.8mpg rather than 24.8/

Agree about mileage my 110tdi average showing is 47.6mpg over the last 2100 miles.

I think they got it wrong.

OK, it's only got just over 500 miles on the clock, but so far the computer says 50.3 mpg.

We are still running it in after all!

Incidentally, I filled up at 358 miles (just before the Heartbeat run) and I put in 35.5 litres, which I reckon comes out at 45.8 mpg.

I have even manged to beat that in my 170, 1100 miles in and it is showing average of 43mpg

Recent observations:

Initial mileage is quite porr till the oil temperature and cooling water temperature get up to "normal" - 90- 100°C oil and 90°C water. It takes about 5-7-km to get there.A few attempts at economy runs - follow normal traffic patterns on mostly A roads with 80 km/hr limit, a few roundabouts and no hills to speak of. Gentle but not extremely slow acceleration, give the vehicles in front lots of room and no unnecessary overtaking, I can repeatedly do 55 mpg/20 km/liter on a standard run to SWMBO's workplace, which is a 50 km round trip. Ditto on a longer run of >100 km to my son on also A roads, but many roundabouts and small towns. Open road speed around 90km/55miles per hour.

2.0 TDI -170 keywords: Stealth, Power, Economy. B)

the reports all have an email address on them, why don't you write to them and ask ?

and dont forget to ask if the Yeti can be the next "Reasonably priced car" !!!!

There are tons of typos in Top Gear magazine every month, this is undoubtedly once of them.

Its probably 42.8 knowing those muppets.
