Drivers side window regulator

Featured Replies

Evening all.

The electric window stopped working so I stripped the door, using the very helpful guides on this site, and found one of the cables twisted and broken. Have decided to replace the whole mechanism rather than just the cable, so ordered the regulator (£70) and waterproof membrane (£13) from Skoda, will be getting them for the weekend.

Is it a simple job to do? It looks very awkward getting the old mechanism out. When the new one is fitted, does it have to be adjusted in any way or will the glass stop automatically on closing at the first attempt? Forgot to order new plastic clips but the old ones look in good condition. The cable seems to have been chafing the wiring loom as the tape on the loom has been worn through. Will try and post pics if anyone is interested.

Any advice you guys may have will be greatly appreciated.

The regulators come out easily enough, you can pull the bars closer together as they are connected by flexible cables and get it out through the larger hole at the bottom of the door.

The only resetting that you will have to do will be for the one touch window operation. Close the window and release the switch, then hold the switch in the closed position for a few seconds, you may hear a faint click and it's done.

Take care when transferring the motor/control unit to the new regualtor, as you don't want the cable spool on the new regulator to unravel.
