What the Ford Kuga should have been

Featured Replies

I did not even go and look at a Ford Kuga when I was car buying for the Yeti. But had it looked like this Ford Edge from the US I would certainly have gone for a look see. The sunroof can open, it is fairly tasteful outside and does not have the craptastic silver interiort the Kuga sports. The rear seats are stupid fixed things and I'd still have gone for the Yeti over this though. But as an American car this looks rather nice to my eyes.

Yes much better looking than the blandmobile Kuga. Looks from the side and back like a raised higher focus. Looks much better from the front.

Mmmmm! Not convinced. I actually prefer the look of the Kuga but... have you seen the 2011 Ford Explorer? This I do like the look of.

The Explorer is decent enough but has the proportions all wrong. Way too much overhang behind the rear wheels and windows that are too small. As a whole it is also too big a car for Europe whereas this Edge is totally Euro friendly in its size.

The Explorer is gorgeous inside, different league from Kuga blandness, but dont like its big arse !! Just doesn't look right with so much overhang over the rear wheels, and if it had been more normal and sold over here then I would have had a look deffo.

Looks a lot like the new Kia Sportage from the front.

It looks like a pressurized (=overinflated) Fabia Combi with a Peugeot Sharksmouth front.

Oh Agerbundsen I LOVE that description. And looking at it now it looks just like that. But I still like it. The mouth flows into the lights and is not a separate mouth like they force on all Pugs (unfortunately).

I hate the Kuga. That new thing looks nicer but will it actually drive nicely?

There aren't many cars that I totally dislike but the Kuga, X1 and that Renault Kaleos thing are 3 that I can think of straight away that I hate.

Oh and the Audi A3 cabriolet, it looks silly. If you're looking at a brand new A3 Cab just go and buy a used A4 Cabriolet.

I love some of the cars you get elsewhere in the world.

Check out the VW Routan what a fantastic package that is, and the Toyota Sequoia which is for when the Landcruiser just isn't big enough.

Well, James,

i suppose it is all about your dreams and how realistic they are to the current need and situation. Back in the 19070's I had a few Buick LeSabres, which were very nice and comfy in the environment at the time and location across the Pond. You did not have the luxury of being in a hurry in tight spaces, but cruising from Chicago to Denver in óne day was just easy and relaxing. When you got tired, just turn over the wheel to SWMBO and stretch out fully on the back seat. We did do a run on the Bonneville Salt Flats once at 100 mph+ with the A/C going full blast, as the outside temp was 45°C.

I secretly like old American cars, so much that once I thought it would be a good idea to get a newer one. I bought a Cadillac Seville STS. Which was pretty nice but trying to put 300bhp and a fair chunk of torque through the front wheels was a bit of a phail. Great stereo mind and the engine sounded cool.

A friend of mine has a late 60s Mustang which is cool, and another chap I know has a really cool Charger RT with the 440Ci engine.

New American cars don't excite me, the Marina near where my dad works run a couple of US cars for their US customers to be driven around in or to borrow. They've got a Lincoln towncar which is awful and a Cadillac the big one, think it's a DTS? Thats not bad! They've also got a Phantom though which oddly is always being used and the Lincoln just sits around gathering dust.

Jeez James, that VW is a blandmobile of the highest order, like an estate taxi and about as appealing as watching a game of cricket !! That Toyota is a bit of a beast tho, like an aircraft inside but noticed the fuel consumption figures were estimated at 14-19 miles per gallon !!!....yikes it IS an aircraft !!!

Haha it won't do 14mpg. One of the guys who works for my dad has got one and it does 6-9mpg. Which is awful, but petrol is only 19p per litre.
