Uncomfortable seats

Featured Replies

I am seriously considering a Superb as my next company car. I've had one on demo and it is the Elegance version with electric leather seats. They are very narrow and the seat edges are very hard. As a larger than average person I really can't see them being comfortable for anything other than short journeys.

Now my question is: if I get the Superb S with standard seats, are they any more comfortable for larger people?

Thanks

Personally i think the old superb mk 1 seats in my opinion are very comfy compared to the newer superb greenline my wife ordered on her motability. Having said that, the newer superb seat are somewhat more supportive in the sides and are firmer, not quite recaro firm than they were in the older superb,,,,but still comfortable, if not slightly narrower. Also there is the seat conrols that seem higher up and makes the seat look more bulky, but i'm quite a big build myself and i havent found any comfort issues, but then again i am not registered as being disabled...i'm only the named chauffer :giggle:

Incidentally, the driver and passenger seats are manually operated, and since there is the electric version, i cannot make any assuption on the comfortablility side of things...maybe someone on here will make a posting on the electric versions, but i do think the electric version does offer a bit more in a way of positioning comfort and lumbar for the old back....but all in all. the greenline version is in my opinion very comfortable

The seats in mine are fine, dont forget the seats have multiway adjustment and take ages to get the position right. For me it took a couple of weeks of fiddling with the different positions till I got one I was happy with.

The seat base tilts up and down at both front and back,

The seat goes up/down

The seat back moves.

The lumber support moves up/down in the seat and also in/out.

I completed a drive from Stevenage to the Costa Del sol and back, and felt fine at both ends of the journey (more than 4000 miles).

I can understand the point about the seats. I haven't got a big backside but I found the side bolster of the seat base to be uncomfortable on my first few journeys. I'm not sure that adjustment can help.

Fortunately the bolster seems to have softened with use. I think I've also adjusted my posture, shifting sideways a little when I get in. Not a problem now.

I have always found the Fabia seats to be more comfortable than any other Skoda seats for some reason.....

Compared with my wifes 2007 Octy L&K the Superb Elegance leather seats are poorly padded on the part you sit on. I am not oversized or particularly overweight (although the wife may argue) but I find the drivers seat becomed painful after about 200 miles. If you press down on the cushion with your hands it lacks spring or substance. On the other hand I find the sides and the back excellent.

I had some comfort issues at first particularly where the seat meets the top of my hips - seemed to be a little too 'grippy'. Over time, I have come to terms with that small issue and now am very happy particularly on a long drive which most of my driving is. The adjustable bolster in the small of the back is an enormous advantage when the drive becomes a little boring as it totally alters your posture. In a word: Great.

My own story should be instructive for you.

I have a Elegance, TDI 125 kw sedan with cloth trim (leather was not important).

When I first test drive the car it was great and the seat seemed fine.

It was only after driving it for about a week did problems with the seat started to emerge. It started with a pain and discomfort in my left buttock (I'm Australian, so there fore drive on the same side of the car and roads as the Brits.) Then there will be pins and needles in the left foot and soreness in the knee. I tired every possible seat combination that I could (and the Superb has a huge number of them) but the issue still persisted.

I tried a thick woolen seat cover to and extra padding (no help).

I've now got a wedge shaped orthopedic foam support on the seat. This has greatly improved the situation, as I no longer get the pain and soreness in the bum. However, I'm still getting the pins and needles and numbness in the foot, albeit substantially reduced. I need to point out that this is only an issue with my left leg and buttock. The rest of my body is fine, no back pain, accelerator leg is all good.

I should be noted that I travel extensively and am in and out of hire cars quite a lot. It normally takes about 5 mins to find a position that is comfortable for hours in all cars that I have driven up to the Superb.

I'm giving the Superb one year for me and it to get used to each other. I don't want to get rid of it, it's the perfect combination of performance, features and economy for me. It would be very, very hard to find another car with with all those qualities for the same money. But what is the point of a luxury car that is not comfortable?

Cheers.

I have had my Superb some time now. I am about 13.5 stone and about 5 foot 10. My first impression was that the seat was difficult to come to terms with (too many adjustments), also the side bolsters and front edge were a bit too hard and the seat a bit too narrow. It took me weeks of fiddling and fidgetting to find a really comfortable position, but after perseverance, I have succeded. The side bolsters seem to have softened a bit over time, I have got a better angle on the seat squab and the front edge no longer creates a problem. Some time ago I did several 400 mile jouneys without any problems. The seats now seem supremely comfortable for long or short journeys. After 400 miles with only one coffee break, I can get out of the car without feeling stiff or sore. Thats all I ask of a car seat.

Thanks Everyone. I have come to the conclusion that if this is a problem it only seems to be on a new car. Once it has settled in things get better. So today I ordered my Superb Estate CR S.

I really appreciate the comments and help.

Lee

PS At 6'2 and 16 and a half stone maybe I'm bigger than some but it comes in handy for my Rugby!!
