Five months isn't unusually long for a factory order at the moment. I suspect the difference with the 1.6 CR TDI is that there will be no unallocated vehicles already in the pipeline that can be allocated to a customer resulting in a a shorter wait for delivery.

Best regards

The 1.6 is not even in the current brochure yet.

The 1.6 develops the same power 105BHP/250 Torque as the outgoing 1.9PD engine, with a much lower CO2 figure.

According to the Norwegian brochure the superb 1.6 estate will weigh 101 kg heavier than an Octavia estate, which I testdrove, and was pleasantly suprised by. Taking into account our drivingstyle ("normal") and the Norwegian infrastructure generally being of a pre 1950 standard, that much power is quit enough over here. :D

So, take a testrdive in an Octavia estate 1.6 and throw a 101 kg `s worth of cement in the boot (or your mother in law) and you`ll get the idea of the power in a Superb estate with the same engine

Utstyrsnivå Elegance

Farge Amethyst purple met

Interiør Glamour ivory

Motorvolum 1.6l (1598 ccm)

1.6 and a big car.....

It`s not the size that matters, man. :giggle:

The torque is much more important, and it was just a matter of time when this change (from 1,9 to 1,6) will be made.

The low speed torque of the 1.6TDI CR engine is quite a bit less than the old 1.9PD engine. I have a 1.6 TDI CR engined MK6 Golf and can assure you that you have to drive it like a petrol car to get any urge from the engine. For this reason I ordered one of the last 1.9 PD Octavias and am very happy with that. In real life the 1.9 PD Octavia is more economical than my MK6 1.6 TDI Golf especially around town. The real difference is that I can tootle around at 1100 revs in the Octavia ( on flat or overun) but the Golf needs a minm. of 1500 revs to feel happy. Even on motorway the 1.9 PD Octavia is more economical.

It's not only that, it's the life of it that needs considering, and even more so the ragged out turbo, cos that will be the part that has to work harder to keep the output up, might be ok for 50k but then it will become a very tired and frustrating drive.

My concern too....

I wonder if it will surface with a DSG gearbox?

Anyone concerned about the 'small' engine size, you shouldn't worry the 1.6CR is a nice engine and will do just as good a job as the older 1.9PD.

Have you tried both engines over a few 1,000 miles each ?

I don`t think that it will become available with that combination. It seems that golf/octavia-size cars are available with DSG, not the bigger ones. Actually, the same situation with Volvo, for example. Only manual and small diesel for V70, for example.

In the Octavia and Fabia, yes. Covered a fair few miles in Fabia 1.6CR in 90 and 105PS variants and done LOADS of miles in an Octavia 1.6CR SE.

But haven't driven a Superb 1.6CR but have spent some time in a Superb 1.9TDi and that was fine, not the same as the 2.0TDi 170CR but still perfectly usable.

Na, the thing is James, you will test them when new, it's not until the lumps been round the block a few times things go south, I understand the makers are under ecopressure to deliver a 1cc that emits nothing and does 1000 mpg and hits 60 in a blink, but the past shows Peugoet have had turbo trouble with the 1.6 HDi, and some VX guys once looked concerened when the Omega had a proper 6 CYL BMW lump removed in favour of the 2.2 DTi, of which my mate had one, and the turbo gave out on it.

Peugeot have trouble with all the HDI engines though, a work friend has been through 3 turbos and now has a new engine after the latest failure. This is in one of the last 407s, I believe its a 2.0 HDI engine in this car.

There are plenty of remapped superbs out there pulling more than 105bhp from the 1.9PD and more than 140bhp from the 2.0PD. Mine has been remapped for sometime now and is running somewhere around 170-180bhp, through a DSG box. Totally transformed the car, and so far no problems to report.

The 1.6CR should be no more troublesome than any other engines, engine design has improved lots and it means that its possible to get more power from smaller engines reliably. Take the Yeti, who would have thought a 1.2 Litre petrol would have worked in such a big car 10 years ago.

Some how I dont think folk with caravans are going to be please as I cannot see the 1.6 being able to tow what they are towing at the moment

Skoda should reconsider keeping the 1.9 and turning it into a CR unit with a min 130 BHP

That choice of extra power and torque is already available as the 2.0CR 140 BHP. All they are doing is substituting the old 1.9PD 105 BHP for the newer 1.6CR 105 BHP. I couldn't possibly comment on what I think folks with caravans should do :) .

Dont want the 140 turbo problems unless they have changed them

You can no longer buy the PD 140 - they are now all CR 140's

  • 2 weeks later...

Called Skoda UK today the 1.6CR will be on www.skoda.uk by the end of the week.

I would no longer trust theSUK website after the fiasco with the configurator.

They are discussing the 1.6 CR on the Octy thread, apparently it uses more fuel than the 1.9 PD due to having to give it more welly to get it moving, god knows what the fuel consumption is going to be like in the Superb

Does the 2 ltr 140 cr still use the same rubbish turbo that was in the PD unit??

Got a mail from our dealer today.

He states that our build week will be week 40 and that delivery wil probably coincide with the coming of father christmas 2010

This is for the 16 CR estate with panoroof. This means that the factory that produces this engine has started production. (was due to open september 2010)

We ordered ours the first week of august.

I agree. It took SUK far too long to re-establish their configurator. Most motor manufacturers, apart from Skoda, would regard their configurator as a highly useful sales tool.
