Hallo and new owner with a problem

Featured Replies

Afternoon all, Outer Hebrides calling civilisation.... Just bought my first Skoda . An Octavia 1.9 tdi. 2002 model. Great mpg on the drive north...about 60 mpg at 60 mph. Well, I have a battery discharge problem. Or at least thats the general name I am giving it..change to alternator or whatever else as info comes along! First up , there is no battery indication light on the dash. Nowhere to be seen on the ignition sequence or when battery is flat.. I think that the problem is intermittant and comes along quite suddenly. ie, all is well then, jump out of car-buy paper- , jump in...totally flat. No warning, no gradual falling away of battery power. I have tried 2 different batteries and same problem has occurred. So, can the alternator be intermittantly faulty allowing massive discharge? Generally, with lights on and wipers going theres no problem with the circuit charging as far as I am aware. I think the fact the "battery indicator" does not show itself at any time, at any stage of ignition, is a clue but am looking for some sensible input to help me along. Thanks, Billy
