Anyone get discount on top of VAT-free price?

Featured Replies

Looking at a new 1.2TSI DSG SE or Elegance, just wondered for those that have recently placed an order with Skoda whether you managed to barter any further discount on top of the VAT-free??

Not a Fabia, but for an Octavia I got £1000 off the VAT-free price by buying through Drive The Deal. The local dealer only offered £100 off the VAT-free price.

I did haggle an extra £500 for my part exchange. Does that count?

You guys are doing better than me....!!!!

My wife's new 1.6 CR Elegance (105) is at the dealer (ordered in May) and we've just been told that our P/Ex valued at £1300 then is today worth £800.....!!!!

I don't see any evidence that the dealers used car prices have dropped 38% in the last 31/2 months.....!!!

Not happy (which is nothing compared to how my wife feels).

That is nonsense and I can't see how a dealer can do that.

They value the Part-Exchange knowing full well that they won't get it until the car you are buying is delivered.

I would suspect an unscupulous dealer of trying to earn more out of you. :wonder:

Assuming you got the form you signed when you ordered... the PX price is shown there. How can they change it?

It tells you what you have to pay when the new car comes in and you leave the old one.

sorry to hear the dealer is reneging on your deal :S

Think if my dealer tried that one they would be loosing a sale, certainly the price for our P/X was based on it's value at the end of September (predicted delivery date).

Dealer Sales Manager 'getting back' to me tomorrow (his thought in May was that the value of the P/Ex would drop £50/month - based on previous monthly drops in value).

We were only offered the firm price of £1300 for the car if we let them have it by the end of May.

So I was prepared to 'lose' £150-200 on the car just to have the use of it in the meantime.

Suppose I should have got a 'firm' price there and then OR gone elsewhere rather than order the car based on what might be....!!!

Will let you know how we get on tomorrow.

Thanks to all for your interest.

Alan

P.S. Didn't intend to 'hijack' Nickynibbles thread...sorry!!!!

I got almost £1k off the VAT free price  however I have a l o n g wait for the car

I ordered my Fabia 1.2 tsi (85) elegance on March 12th. Its in a solid colour (white) with added heated seats and headlight washers and i paid £10400 for it. I started a thread back then about the purchase of the car. Was very happy with the price.

I traded in my VRS for it, the price they offered for it in March was written on the form and thats obviously what i got when it came to collect the new one in may.

Although theres VAT on the VRS, Drive the Deal offered a £2k saving.

I rang LOTS of Skoda dealers and quoted this, and I found a few that would discount, and a lot more that wouldnt or couldnt.

One offered me a £1500 discount with a 2 day wait for delivery and a cheap finance deal.

It meant a 150 mile round trip though, so I had to think about it for a few milliseconds before I set off with my deposit!

  • 2 weeks later...

I didn't get any discount off of the VAT free price however i did get mats, mudflaps and rubber boot liner thrown in.

As for trade in prices, i cant quibble with what i got for my 06 1.9tdi fabia, £3500, offered on 27th July when car ordered, price as at 31/july was £3650, dealer said that he had adjusted down to end of August as car due for delivery on 1st Sepetmber ( was a stock order already placed prior to 2 week factory holiday, was what i wanted so he placed it on request.

I have heard on several posts that there are dealers adjusting down trade in prices to take into account the VAT discount offered. However i think this could backfire as dealers have to pay VAT on the difference between purchase and sales price. My dealer gave me £3500 on my Fabia and its on the forecourt for £5995. who would pay that for a 4 year old car with nearly 50,000 on the clock? when for £4,500 more you can get a brand new one.

Xery

Yes..

Some discount but the vRS is not 0% VAT sadly!!

Maybe someone who hasn't got £10500

Just signed for Fabia VRS today with 2k discount after a haggle for 3 weeks!!!!

Thats impressive haggling just after the vrs launch monkey 182 and what I would be hoping for if I decide to go for the estate. If they can offer Fabias vat free then they should include the vrs.
