PD160 intake fitted

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I've posted alot on here for help and advice, so first thanks to everyone :)

I got the 'modding' ball rolling last night and fitted a pd160. It only took 10 minutes and was really easy!

Differences found; touch more responsive, slightly longer power band, but definitely alot less smoke!!!!

Would I advise this mod? For 50 quid, it's a great shout and essential if your considering a remap.

Next on the cards is fitting the eibachs and bushes I has sat in my garage. They should hopefully be going on in the next couple of weeks :). Then it's off to p-torque for a decat and remap :)

Thanks again for all the advice.

im unsure of gains, diesels run on excess air anyway's

im running a bmc, id be surprised if it did anything :)

Do you know how they would handle a ran air system, so no gap under the intake?

no idea but this is my set-up :)

does that say DYSON on the side of it :giggle:

defo revs freer with the 160 pipe on

can someone please confirm that thats the turbo at the back of the engine bay where the EGR delete ppipe connents onto? and on the other side is the pipe that has the MAF? im not too sure so asking the question lol then the long silver pipe running down the left is coming from the FMIC and connect ontos the EGR delete pipe then onto the turbo?

also is the standard air intake pipe down at the front now rendered useless with the induction kit in place?

No, and no... sorry, I know I'm new but I think this guy is about to get rather confused.

The EGR pipe (delete or otherwise) in no way connects directly to the turbo, thats the intake manifold. The turbo is behind and under that, its connected to teh pipe with the MAF on which feeds air into the turbo where its compressed, ran through the intercooler, through the silver pipe on the left side of the picture and into the inlet manifold.

Looking at it the old air feed is still in use and feeds air into the BMC (you can see its the same type of ducting attached to both), hope this clears things up.

hey thanks, but from what i can see from the picture? the blue pipe with the MAF? doesn seem to go down the back of the engine? from what i can see it connects onto what is said to be the inlet manifold?

I need to get round to doing this mod soon. Currently running at 182bhp with the standard pipe on. I get a fair bit of smoke when booted.

Just don't want to part with £90 for a pipe...!

I'll have to get some toilet rolls and duck tape... haha. :p

No, I think I would have to get the OEM part, just for the OEM look.

Yeah it does it connects to an aluminium pipe which goes down to the turbo

Differences found: You have to wrap and cable tie a small pipe hanging off the side of the engine to prevent chaffing against the PD160. Don't sweat too much though. Mine's been chaffed, noticed, wrapped in tape and cable tie'd out of the way for more than three years with no adverse effects. The thing lets more air through to the engine, I have no doubt. Just change the air filter every 10K miles rather than the <shudder> 40k!!! indicated in the service schedule.

Have you got a pic of the pipe that needs wrapping please.

On mine the pipe rubbed against the PD160, not all do though, apparently.

I haven't got a pic but the middle picture in that link shows it peeking out from under the engine cover, I think.

Pull the engine cover off (pull up at each front edge and then pull forwards). And the rubber pipe should be evident. Between the front of the end of the engine and the PD160.

I used fabric covered tape (Power Duck ! ) and then cable tied it around several pipes and cables to pull it away a little.

Thanks for that, just had a look and they are fairly obvious :)
