Fashion for White

Featured Replies

I expect many of you have noticed that there has been a sudden popularity in the colour White for new cars. It seems that all manufacturers are pushing it at present! Even seen a Jaguar XF  which I thought looked awful!!

For many years Silver was the colour to have. Now it seems its white! Even the Kent Police have gone back to white after about 8 years of silver.

Anyone guess why White again and what will it do for residuals??

Just Curious.

I've noticed this a lot now that white seems to be quite popular, esp on say Audi's and manufactuers are pumping up the prices for a white car.

In regards to silver I was speaking to my dad about this recently and he bought his first silver car back in 1989 when silver was still a rare colour to see on a car, now you see silver on every second car, and yes I do own a silver car! For example in my street I can count at least 7 on one side of my street.

Why pay extra for metallic paint, when white shows the true curves and lines of a car's bodywork?

Too much white is not good though, which is why I opted for a black roof on my new vRS. The two tone looks fantastic and I think one of the best combinations to have! ( Mind you, I would say that wouldn't I?? ) ;)

Have owned white cars in the past but all were used or showroom stock, the last one being an unreliable but very nice looking BMW 316i Coupe which we sold in 2002. The trade in price was marked down purely for the fact it was white, although even the salesman had to admit it looked more striking than the silvers etc. that were popular at the time.

Last year I decided to order a Yeti which I thought looked good in the red or white but my wife was not keen on the latter. Now we have a Fabia on order and again my wife was not keen on white; felt neither design suited the colour. As she is very interested in art and design thought best to bow to her better judgement  :giggle: She's therefore ended up with Pacific Blue, decided that I was no longer prepared to pay for the privilege of putting 'glitter' in the paint

white only seems to suit sporty models

if for example you bought a kia cee'd in white it would just look bobby basic

Yeah works on sporty cars, even if you add a touch of say black ie black alloys it works really well.

When solid black became popular a few years ago what did the manufacturers do? formulate a metalic black and then charge extra for it which is probably what will happen to white. Skoda suddenly decide it's a good idea to charge extra for solid yellow.

We have a white one

The wife hates it...Hence we have ordered a green and black one

The only thing wrong with the white fabia sport above is it is pre-facelift, and the wider grill and further spaced out lights makes the world of difference. It still looks good in white though

As for your red sport with the white roof ,although it wouldn't be my choice, I have to say I've seen pics and it looks great!

I'm getting impatient now ,I'm dying to get into my candy white vRS...I know they say all good things come to those who wait, but for ##### sake, I'll be dead by then

I think after years of the roads becoming a sea of silver and grey with the odd blue or black and even rarer red or white, the customer is crying out for a change, I certainly was. From a used car point of view the dealers will continue to have forecourts full of silver cars for some time to come. I felt lucky to be able to buy new this time and actually choose the colour I wanted, coincidentally white!

That white one in the picture looks nice. I like it!

I don't have white as most of our minibuses are white... and I'd have trouble finding the car in the depot.

I ordered a Ford Fiesta in White on September 06, when it arrived it was not the standard Diamond White but the new Frozen White. The new shade was definitely better, the car looked great until the artic pushed it off the motorway into the barriers!!!!!!!!!!!! . The Passat I was given as a replacement was boring silver.

I placed an order for a Fabia Elegance in Candy White with the optional white roof!!

Delivery was taking too long so I have cancelled and have ordered a SEAT Ibiza Sport, guess which colour? :giggle:

The frozen white on the ford is a lot better than the diamond white I agree I've seen a few fords in Frozen white and they look spot on.

I hope you don't need to pay the extra for a white roof on a white car! :o
