Cambelt

Featured Replies

When I got my car I was told it had its cam belt changed. But I dont have a receipt (sp) of it.

So I told some photos of it when I was doing my oil change today.

Can anyone tell me if it looks worn out, in average condition or newish.

Cheers, Stephen

its hard to tell from pics, but that deffinately doesnt look old to me.

Without proof you'll never really know. Just looking at a belt like that won't reveal much.

If your concerned at all then it's best to replace it. I know it's extra money but consider the alternative.

Is it an OEM part?

What is the part number on it?

Does is have a datestamp on it?

How many miles has the car done?

You may be able to tell from the above..

but, If in doubt replace it.

Can you ask the previous owner for details of the belt change?

That looks pretty new so I wouldn't worry bout changing it

Judging by the amount of skoda dealer invoices Im sure if it was replaced it would be OEM.

Couldnt see a part number in the posistion it was in at the time might check later as the car will be started.

Cant see date stamp

Cars a 05 on 68k

When I bought the car he said it was done but I have no proof just his word. Did seem like a really nice guy and I got the car really cheap and its been spot on.

Push the car forwards in top gear (key out) to crank the engine over until you can see the lettering on the belt. The belt you have is a Continental and the lettering on these belts is usually readable for about 40k miles. Beyond that mileage, the tensioner and idler running on the back of the belt rub the letters off.

Your belt looks very good but the lettering will give a more accurate picture. Do the tensioner, idle roller and water pump look new?

With the engine cold and having pushed the engine over as described, where is the belt tensioner pointer (just visible in one of your shots) in relation to the slot in the bracket? A new belt should be set so that the pointer is centrally in the slot, in my experience by the time a belt needs to be changed, the pointer will be to the left (as you look at it) of the slot by about 10 - 15 mm.
