Those with 312mm Brakes...

Featured Replies

Had a puncture yesterday on one of my almost brand new rear Toyo Proxes. I managed to get it patched.

Whilst I was there I wondered what I could do if it was the front and had to change the wheel at the side of the road.... there is no way the standard steel rim would fit over the 312mm brakes right?

Hmmm, good point.

Never considered this. Hopefully someone will be along soon to confirm whether the steely will fit.

Otherwise, maybe we should carry a puncture repair foam spray can.....

standard mk1 Fabia vRS alloys fit over normal 312mm brakes, is it a space saver spare?

I have the 312mm brakes and cant say that ive ever thought of this?!?

Suppose what you could do is put the spare on the rear and swap the rear wheel with the punctured front wheel. Double the work, but at least you could then drive it again

IIRC the standard 16'' steel will fit over the 312mm brakes

I'm not sure on the answer to this, but if not it would be a case of having to swap the rear wheel for the spare, and then put the rear alloy on the front.

Could be fun with only one jack though...

Edit: Martyn beat me too it!

Good idea, The only trouble I see doing that, is you jack the front of the car up pull the alloy off, but then you have to jack the rear up - but currently have no wheel to transfer the weight of the car onto - if you get what I mean.

i think you would have to do the rear wheel first - prob best to find out if the steel wheel will fit before a puncture occurs....

Hope this is true :) Can someone confirm this?

Someone must of had a puncture with their 312s :D

you'd do the rear swap first :p

Great news, thanks for confirming mate.

I can confirm 100% that the steel spare fits over 312's just!. I ran steelies through the winter no problems

Cheers for the confirmation

No need for the question if you'd looked in the boot and seen that the spare is a full size steel :p

yup i to can confirm this

im running brembo's with the standard 16" spare

if i get a puncture on the front i'll have to swap it with a rear 17" alloy then put the spare on the rear lol

Did anyone else read this and thought 'hmm.. balancing the car on its side with that silly jack will require some skills'............................. before realising to swap the rear's first...?

...(its been a long day) :p

Not only does the spare fit over the 312mm discs, there is actually a tad more room than with the standard alloy.

Talking of the 312mm setup, I have a pair of TT calipers (with pads but I'd recommend new ones), 312mm EBC turbo groove discs (used for about 200miles) and a pot of VRS green hammerite paint that I want to swap for a set of 17" Octavia VRS alloys. The only thing you'd need are the caliper/pad carriers.

I'll pop this on as a separate post later, but if you know anyone up for a swap.... B)
