How old, how many miles?

car is a 1.9tdi s 59 plate done 26000mls its a taxi

Could be the DMF or release bearing, faulty hydraulics, if it turns out to be the DMF get them to put a solid clutch kit in instead of a replacement DMF, I have done 90,000 so far on my solid one

Look at the DMF thread here:

They do not need to take the gearbox out and strip it down to see if it's going and can do it either via the inspection hole or by taking the starter motor out and inspecting for play.

I was told by a dealer that labour costs for this would be £45 + VAT

Sounds like yours is either a bit clueless or a bit after making some extra cash.

Get them to put the whole solid system in and you will have no more problems, flywheel, clutch and release bearing

You have to change it all anyway when going solid.

thanks for the reply guys got my car bk today everything got changed what a diifference so heres hoping no more probs B)

It is sadly a known error on the 1.9 diesel, that the flywheel and clutch seems to break down after approx. 15 - 20k miles. I hope Skoda will start fitting the cars with stronger parts, so that the cars will last longer. The 170hp version seems to cope fine though.

Name and shame the dealer!

Six speed gearboxes are different to the five speeds, the 170 being quite a bit bigger.

Also some interesting reading from the likes of ZF (who are same company as Sachs) and failures of mainshaft and sixth gear bearings due to the fitting of single mass flywheels.
