I know roof mounted ones are better, but the price difference is quite huge

I had one on my old Octavia but I would think as the fabia bumper seems a lot less robust that it would be a little risky.

I'm glad this has come up as i am thinking on getting one as my 2 kids have bikes. I was told it's best to have the bikes on the roof of the car instead of them on the rear, is this true.

I had rear mounted carriers for years but got fed up with the scratches on the boot, untangling the webbing, seeing the bikes sway precariously when going round bends and just generally feeling exposed and unhappy with them on the rear. I've had roof mounted carriers for over a year now and am really pleased. I can leave the cycle racks attached all year round and can have two bikes on, or off, in about 5 minutes flat. Plus, the racks lock onto the roof bars and onto the bikes.

Hmmm... might be going down the roof bar route then!

Unlike my mk1, theres no runners for the bars to sit in :( Theres also no bars to attach to... can anyone link me to some roof bars that would be suitable? Was looking at something like:
