stock power of facelift tsi engine

Featured Replies

I know there are people starting to boost the power of the facelift cars, but I am curious as to the stock power output of the current engine..having owned a mk2 vrs I am convinced the facelift feels faster..it feels much more lively in 2nd and 3rd to me..it could of course just be better throttle response and a more modern engine..or I could just be kidding myself!

but anybody had it on rollers yet?

I'm sure I read some info on here somewhere that said it's not unheard of for them to come out of the factory with 220bhp stock.

Also applies to the CR diesel as well, with some coming out closer to 190bhp than 170......

Or did I just dream all of this up?! :S

No I don't think you are dreaming Herschel. I've heard too that the claimed power output of VAG engines is on the conservative side.

I've heard VAG cars come with the stated figure as minimum, 10% up from stated is about right. Same goes for the entire range (apparently) Bugatti included. :)

Surely they wouldn't make the Golf GTI Mk6 210 bhp and the FL VRS 200 bhp other than on paper for marketing purposes? It hardly seems worth the bother. I know VW is a slightly more prestige brand, but that hasn't made much difference in the past with similarly engined SEAT, VW and AUDI models all similarly rated IIRC.

So I reckon the VRS is 210....maybe the remap guys know one way or the other?

thats what I'm hoping to find out..presumably the remaps mean you get a figure before and after

or of course maybe the gearing is just different in 2nd and third so it feels quicker without actually being quicker!

There's a graph on the JKM web site - shows the stock TSI at 204bhp and 206ft/lb.

The TFSI and TSI engines are completely different so although skoda state 200PS for both, the delivery is likely to be quite different - hence the "faster" feeling. Gearing etc also makes a difference. Maybe the TSI has more torque lower down (but same headline figure..?) or it could be that the ecu on the TFSI is restricting max torque in the lower gears to reduce driveline stress where the TSI has a less (or no) restriction.. who knows.

Reason why Vrs has 200PS and Golf has 210PS? Yep, just marketing / brand positioning! Hence why there's such a big gain to be had from remapping.

My TSI was rolling roaded pre remap at 197Bhp which is spot on what Skoda says.

The Scirroco same engine is also the same 200PS, why the Sciirroco and Octavia have less power is a mystery. I believe the Audi A4 is graced with the 210Bhp variant as well.

However, for about £500.00 you can get a good remap to way exceed 210Bhp and still have thousands left in your pocket over the list price of a Golf!

ona good roller you will have stock power give or take a max of about 5Hp.

as for the TSI feeling faster than the TFSI. that might be so. just because they have the same peak power it doesnt tell the whole story. the TSI might be making more power in the midrange than the TFSI does which is what you will feel in everyday driving. Diffeent engine with different mapping. its never going to be identical, and i cant imagine be it being worse

The FL Octavia is somewhat lighter than the previous model. This may have an impact on it feeling faster.

I'm still not convinced my new VRS (TSI) is as quick as the old (FSI) but that might just be the tightness of the new engine atm, so time will tell I'm sure.

I thought I read in a mag that the Scirroco had been upped to Mk6 GTi levels?

(Edit) Yep: http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/#/new/scirocco/which-model/engines/overview

^ yes, scirocco now has the 210PS Tsi engine like the mk6 gti. It didn't get it at the same time as the gti, but did so more recently IIRC.

Bobbins.

It's only lighter as they've taken the spare wheel out and then charge you to put it back!

Hi All

It is the TFSI engine in the FL vrs not the TSI as I understand

The FL most definitely has the TSI engine, in fact some late pre-FL had the TSi engine too, if I remember.

I have been at the Skoda garage today looking at a new VRS and they told me that it is stil TFSI in the VRS and that Skoda are not using the TSI yet (and no plans to at least on the current 60 reg cars). This was confirmed by the brouchure i got which says TFSI and a print date of 19/08/10......

I have a vrs coming mid Oct and my order clearly says 2.0TFSI, also "Auto car review" along with other reviews mention the TFSI

Look ignore what skoda UK puts on paper and what mags say! take it from a vRS TSI owner and all the other FL vRS owners its a TSI engine.

i have a new VRS and a 207GT and the VRS defo has a new engine! lol - see here http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/157716-vrs-tsi-and-vrs-tfsi/page__st__20

PS Don't believe what a lot of the press, the bankers and particularly the government tells you - they clearly talk BS!

I also heard education is a system of imposed ignorance :D
