I am fine , thanks for asking. I had it taken to dealers (Derek Slack ,Middlesbrough) .The offenders insurance (N.F.U. Mutual) has arranged for it to be collected and taken to their recommended repairers for assesment. I am just thankful she was insured and got in touch with her insurance and admitted guilt to them straight away.

What was the damage like to her motor? Any photos?

Andy

Gutted for you. Some of them pics make it look like a volvo not an octy. :(

Hope all goes well with the insurance side of things

No didnt get any photo's of hers, but the 2 rails of her chassis had come through her front bumber and punched holes in my bumper. Hers is a Nissan Nivara 4 wheel drive double cab long wheel base.

The photo's i have posted are after i moved it off the main road onto the side road to free the main road up for traffic.

Mate I'm gutted for you, hope you get it all sorted fast and back on the road soon offering support to black VRS owners........

Glad to hear you are ok because it looks like the car has taken a good wallop to do that much damage to the rear, I know I'd be very upset if someone did that to my second hand new to me Octavia never mind a brand new one but at least it can be replaced whereas you can't be. While it's going to be a long wait I'd probably be hoping for a right off as the damage looks pretty extensive and a lot more than just cosmetic.

John

Terrible - having just picked up a '60' plate I can understand how you feel. Lucky that you were unhurt at least...

Les.

Gutted for you. Fingers all Firmly crossed for you. Hope you get it all sorted ASAP!

As others have said, a write off and new motor would be best after that!

As a previous whiplash victim, please make sure your neck & back are fine! It can take a day or two for them to stiffen up.

Good luck with it all.

Cheers, Dunc

Thanks for all the concern folks, at the end of the day, **** Happens, nothing i can do about it, just gotta wait for the insurance to decide what to do. at that point i can then start making decisions on how to proceed. And its easy to say but very hard to believe , but it IS only a car. :'(

Gutted. :'(

Glad to hear you're ok though, and that her insurers sound like a reasonable bunch (NFU are renowned for being fair minded).

Let us know how you get on. We all feel for you.

Second the above, I'm still waiting for mine and can't imagine thefrustration you must be going through after such a long wait! Glad you're OK though.

Steve

fark me!!!

feel so sorry for u mate. u waited ALL this time to finally get the car, then this happens!!!

unlucky mate.

at least ur ok.

all the best with sorting this mess up.

Looking at the bending to the rear quarters, I'd want that written off.

If they do try and repair it, I'd insist that the work is done at a skoda dealer and put a claim in for loss of future resale value.

Glad you're ok

Cant see it being a write off to me. It doesnt have £12k of damage IMO unless any of the chassis has crumpled. Anything twisted can be jigged.

Ignore those who say they never feel the same, its either a mental thing or they havent been repaierd correctly. Afterall, how many people 'really' know the history of what second hand cars they buy eh?

All i'd insist on is genuine Skoda parts and a full engineers report, with a full laser alignment check of the chassis and wheels to full manufacturer spec

If it's done properly you'll never know, and the parts they paint will be better than the thin factory paint too!

I would not letting the other insurers be taking it anywhere i'm afraid. It would be going to a repairers of my choice. The accident wasn't your fault and you have the right to choose where your car goes. Get on the phone sharpish and tell them. they will be sending it to the cheapest place they can find.

You are entitled to get your own estimate done as well.

Should you get a solicitor working on it if they try to scam you?

Oh that sucks, I can imagine what it must be like, bad luck. I hope no big events such as holidays etc have been affected? I'd like to follow this story, but you've got 2 threads on the subject, which one do you plan to keep updated? Or perhaps the mods will merge them for you?

Best of luck.

Gutted for you mate. Having had car repaired in the past and seeing how ****e the repairs can be I'd be looking for it written off and getting a new car. The trained eye will always be able to see that its been repaired and can effect future saleability. I'd also want it checked by a repairer of my choice.

99% certain its totalled, wreck will be worth a lot to the salvage guys & that is set against the repair cost, also factor in a few weeks rental car they wont have to pay whilst its repaired, its all a number crunching exercise at the end of the day.

Whatever deal you had when you bought the car ensure you have the cost of a replacement agreed with your dealer so they pay out enough.

You have the right to have the car repaired anywhere you want. The insurance company can not insist on you using their repairer. If it isnt totalled I would insist its repaired by a Skoda dealer. We had the "approved" repairer a couple of times when my wifes company carr was hit a few years ago, awful rushed jobs,

Her insurers have been good but make sure you tell yours what has happened, its a requirement in your policy but wont count against you unless you have to claim which sounds unlikely but if you do have to then you have advised them as you should have done.

As you say, its only a car, a bit quicker & you could be in a mess.

99% certain its totalled,

Unless you've inspected it you haven't got a clue its 99% a write off. If the chassis is intact its just panel damage and cosmetics and there wont be £12k plus ( ie 60% or more of the price of a new one in this case ) cost to repair that and have him in a hire car for a few weeks.

It is a numbers game and it makes sense for the insurer to repair it unless it goes over their decision threshold. There's no 'push for a write off', it either meets their criteria or it doesnt

Having said all that if the boot floor is creased its game over.

Ok 98%

Lets see what happens

We sure will, and whatever the outcome, there is no way you can have any certainty from that photo as to wether they will write it off or not, which is my point, not whether it will be written off or not.

If you do, please post the extent of the repairs needed that you can have any certainty over and the dealer price

Insurance assesors sure as hell dont go off a couple of ropey photos to make a decision so i'm not sure what expertise you may have on top of them.

Having immediate family who work as insurance assesors may give you a background to my reasoning and your supreme ability to assess a write off from a photo

Gutted for you mate! It was only the other day I was saying how lucky you were, glad your ok though.
