This can be handled as part of an uninsured loss claim, all you need to do is document the extra incurred cost and the third-party insurers should reimburse.

I have been watching this thread with interest as in a previous working life I handled exactly these sort of situations for a large household name insurer. Where we had clear liability our aim was to settle the third-party claim as efficiently as possible at the smallest inconvenience to the person(s) involved. Not only did this help to keep costs down, it also was a suprisingly good marketing tool.

However not all insurers are equal, while NFU have a good reputation some insurers are not so proactive dealing with third-party claims. This creates a market for the likes of Helphire (and others) who cause everybodies costs to go up which ultimately contributes to rising premiums.

It's interesting as I know a lawyer who did a lot of these types of cases and I seem to remember them commenting that the hire on credit type companies rarely get awarded against the other side unless the claimant can prove they needed it on credit rather than accepting another car or hiring it themselves from a normal hire place and getting that back.

The credit hire costs are usually a lot higher than normal rental, and if they don't get paid out, then it's your insurance co that will be left with the bill (or you) and I guess that could get potentially interesting.

I have been out of the industry for a few years. From your comments it looks like the concerted effort by the motor insurers to drive third-party fire and theft policies out of the market is having a positive effect. Our main problem in the late 90's was people in no-fault (or disputed fault) accidents with only TPFT cover. Inevitably if we didn't get to them quickly they would end up in the hands of a credit-hire company and it would often be very difficult to persuade them away. I saw claims from third-party drivers where the hire element dwarfed the write-off cost of their vehicle. Credit-hire was a relatively new thing then.

The ideal situation from the point of view of the mainstream insurance industry is that everyone has fully comprehensive cover and post-accident each party is quickly dealt with by their own insurer. This gets cars back on the road quicker which reduces overall costs.

I find it quite interesting to be honest, just wish they would find a way to nail uninsured drivers without tracking the rest of us.

Well in this case, the offenders insurer NFU Mutual are behaving impeccably. I have been to the specialist repairers today and seen my poor VRS and they showed me the damage. the full tailgate the rear panels the two rear wings and rain channels about halfway along the top of the back doors and all associaited bits n pieces are all going to be replaced. The boot floor is not bent, buckled or twisted and the repairers are 100% certain that the car will be as good as (if not better) than it was brand new. They have 1 guy on the job and that is his job from start to finish in the bodyshop, then it will go to paint and should have it back at the latest by end of month.

WOOHOO!!!!!!!! Freddie 2 is back where he belongs, with me. :)

Just Car Clinics have finally completed the repairs to my baby, what a fantastic job they have done, the car is absolutely perfect. Even the skoda dealer they sent the car to to get the cd changer sorted (4 CD's stuck in it since the accident) said what an excellent job they (JCC) had done, they would not have known it had been in an accident.

I would definitely recommend them to anybody and everybody.

I am once again a very happy driver.
