Is there a problem with my Octy?

Featured Replies

When the car is fully warmed up and I stop the car to park up if I leave it to idle the needle on rev counter moves up and down slightly.;..is there a problem. Recently serviced spark plugs, oil and filter, fuel filter. Other than that the car is driving really good. Any ideas?:

thats about the norm mate, flucuating 50rpm up n down.

throttle body clean helps mate.

How do you do that and what do you use...and here comes the clever question where is it? Can it be done DIY by a novice? Also ay other advantages of doing this?

By the way thank you for the reply.

mine is the same mate. there is a how to guide on here which explains all. iirc you need to plug the car in after cleaning the throttle body and get the throttle position reset if you unplug it.

hi mate,

always check this "how to guides" on here they are a great resource and answer most questions already asked.

jamie did a fantastic job on this how to guide and this will save you a lot of time. keeping the wiring plugged in while you do it will also save you a lot of time/money.

Cleaning throttle body - how to guide

good luck

as said so long as its done on the car and left pluged in you dont need it resetting

You can risk unplugging it, and it "may" need resetting lol

I did my wife's in-situ, no worries. I used IPA and the corner of an old chamois tied to a stick!

Ordered the gasket today will be getting carb cleaner tomorrow...any hints or tips to go with guide?

Not really... since doing the guide I bought myself a universal joint and a 5mm hex bit from Halfords which has helped a lot with undoing the bolt that's hard to reach. Before I was having to do it with a 5mm hex key which wasn't ideal.

Got the gasket today which way does the 'rough' surface go as no markings to tell you on it!

Anything else to do in that 'area' while it is all off/detached?
