Bought me octy 1 vrs a couple weeks ago.fantastic Car,

Well chuffed with it.but I have come across a couple of

Faults.

Hard to select reverse.

Leak in boot.

Interior light doesn't work with the doors open/shut .

Works fine on other settings.

are these problems an easy fix???

Thanks

1) Hydraulic clutch on these cars, so I'd check the linkage alignment, then get the clutch bled, then suspect a failing slave cylinder.

2) Hatch? If so, then if you open the hatch too quickly, water runs off the groove at the base of the windscreen and falls into the boot. Otherwise, it could well be a leak in the washer pipe, probably either at the nozzle, or inside the LH wheelarch, under the CD stacker.

3) Sounds like an issue with the microswitches. Do you have any problems with the "door open" light and/or the central locking misbehaving?

Estate does the same - I'd say design fault, along with the leaky windows due to no roof gutter

surely if it was a failing slave cylinder it would effect all gears not just reverse??

when the interior light is set in the postion to come on when the door opened nothing happens....

but when flicked into the 'map reading' position the interior light works fine.

Is the micro switch an easy fix?? where are they located??

cheers

Never seen this on my estate. What I have seen is that when one shuts the boot, it is possible to trap the fabric handle across the lower boot seal, which when driving in the rain can cause water to get 'wicked' into the boot.

I find that if you leave the boot open when it's raining the water builds up in the number plate area and then cascades all over you when shut it. I try to remember to stand to one side when I shut it now.

I haven't had any problems with water getting into the boot except when the washer pipe popped off by the CD changer

Also HotRod the car does have roof gutters, so maybe your are blocked up with crap if the water from the roof runs onto the doors.

If you are switching the interior light to map light then that uses a different circuit / bulb so could be a bulb out in the interior side?

Can you get the interior light to work at all with the other doors open?

Does your red door panel lower light come on with the door open? it not this does point to a door mechanism switch problem.

Not a easy job to replace , better off replacing door lock mechanism

I did do a guide on replacing the microswitch found here if you are willing to have a go.Worked for me.

1) Reverse is the only gear with straight-cut gear teeth, which can cause blocking there when the forward gears are all fine. Also, I'd expect changes on the move to be easier because you're not trying to match a stationary gear wheel with a spinning one.

2) Not on my car it doesn't. I can see how trapping the handle would be possible though.

3) The micro-switches are built into the door locks. If the light doesn't work off either door in courtesy mode, but the door open warning does, it's not likely to be them though. It's more likely to be the switch in the roof, but I'm not sure how to test that short of using a multimeter.

Where on the 2010 Octavia - and how would these become blocked with crap?
