f***ing 17 yr old moped rider

Featured Replies

I've just had a moped rider right up my chuff, when I applied the brakes he came within, what I thought, was a cats whisker of hitting me, before maneouvering around me, into oncomming traffic, passing 3 or 4 cars before returning to the right side of the road.

I pulled up in a bus lane and checked and the little fu**er has hit me, well more like a glancing blow. I'm guessing something abrasive has glanced across my paintwork as it's left scratches just under the rear drivers light cluster.

I've tried using AG SRP, applying about 6 or 7 coats, allowing to haze and then removing lightly, although its taken some of the scratches out, there are 2 that don't seem to be removed.

Now it's a shame either I didn't get his reg plate, or an oncoming HGV wipe him out - for driving like that with my son in the car, if he had come through my rear window he'd have injured my 5 yr old. There is absolutely no excuse for driving like that.

So - I need some solutions as to how best to remove this, starting with the cheapest and working up to the most expensive.

It's Black Magic paintwork. I'll try anything at present.

It's taken it down to the paint, but not through to the primer - so I know it can be repaired without the aid of a respray.. I'd just like to know the best solution.

if it means me buying a polishing machine - I'll do that. Failing that if there is anyone in Stoke On Trent area that can help / give advice, it would be much appreciated.

Not good. Glad he didn't come through the window and cause any injuries to your precious cargo.

It may be worth speaking to your local dealer as they will know someone that could do a repair of the scratches.

Normally dealers will have someone come in an do touch ups on cars that have damage before they sell them on.

They may be able to do a proper repair at a reduced cost normally only about 75 quid max depending how big the scratches are.

Hopefully this helps.

Very annoying but as you know it could have ended worse.

So, Black Magic is clear over base, if the base is fine and the scratching is just in the clear as it sounds then it shouldn't be too bad.

You could use a polisher but if it's through to the base, all you are doing is grinding off all the protection, you don't really want that.

A better option is to fill with a clear which is a lacquer coat, without seeing the scratches, it's hard to say what the best route is but roughly speaking for individual type scratches then fill using a fine brush and a liquid lacquer (you could spray into the lid, but tins have a higher solvent content to help it spray so more of it evaporates). Build it up to be slightly proud of the surface leave it to harden (ideally for a few days) then polish it back down flat. The wet lacquer will often make that white inner edge of the scratch disappear by bonding to it. It's not actual white after all, it's just a rough edge refracting light.

If it's more of a scuff, it can be a better option to spray a localized coat (layer) of lacquer on to replace what is there and then polish (cut) it back to the original level.

With either option, make sure it's as clean as possible and prep with a panel wipe or other solvent first.

www.paint4cars.co.uk do really good touch up / scratch kits with all the bits you need it little bottles, very handy for chips too.

EDIT: Or like MedicvRS mentioned, get somebody in to do it. You're looking for a place that does Smart Repairs this is the term for localized repairs and they specialize in small repairs. ChipsAway is a well known example.

Hi HotRod! I would try some meguiars scratch x 2.0 cost bout £10 even halfords sell it. I've used it loads to get scratches out by hand before I got my DA Polisher. It might get rid of your problem Or make it less visible. Get some photos up for more help I'd say. Hope you get it sorted. Ryan

Cheers - agreed it could have been much worse for my little one. Will grab some phone numbers tomorrow and start ringing around. Anyone know roughly what price I should expect to pay for someone to do this for me?

I think the last one a heard of was in the region of £50-60. Hard to say without seeing it but get some quotes.

+1 for scratch X 2.0 - it really is good stuff
