Korban, loving the look! Where did you get them from and what are they called/part numbers? Were they easy to fit?! :S

Home made mate,

Bought LED strip from HERE

Mounted them on a plastic strip and covered them with tinted plastic and stuck them behind the front valance, also created a simple dimming circuit so that they dipped when I switched the side lights on, because they dazzled people at night.

Glad you like them, this is what they look like during the day

Hi mate do those headlight eyebrows just stick onto the headlights themselves?

I really dont understand the love of these :|

They look really cheap and tacky. Why not just invest in some good high legal output bulbs? And maybe take away the orange indicator bulbs?

Yeah, they were just stuck on with ordinary bathroom/kitchen waterproof silicone sealant

I actually agree with you, tried various aftermarket LEDs which I thought looked worse, so decided to make my own (Version 3 at the moment). However anything which reduces the chance of some idiot not seeing me and pulling out in front of me is not a bad thing IMHO, I know there is an argument for not having them for the sake of bikers but IIRC from this year all new cars will be having them fitted, some thing to do with a new EU directive I think (someone will correct me if I'm wrong).

Lost what you mean about "high legal output bulbs" do you mean the side light and do you mean replace the indicators with these high output bulbs ?

+1!

I was looking at my car the other day, and, get this: found that the headlights turn on during the day too! :o Free DRLs for everyone! ;)

Not going to stop/moan at people for using them, I just can't see the point myself and think many-a-car has been ruined with their addition.

Quite right but your missing the point, LED DRL were invented to reduce power consumption and lower emissions rather than burning up 130 watts of power with your headlamps on !

Ideally would love to somehow get an extra Hi power LED lamp inside the headlamp unit, but haven't figured how to do it yet !

Karl

Both my cars have xenons, so it's only 70 watts. Plus at 20mpg, consumption from lights is the least of my worries! ;)

Regarding the extra light thing - could you look at getting some of those bulbs that have high/low in one unit and fit them into it after attacking the wiring? Although I don't know what that would do to the beam pattern.

Both your car are using about 90 watts then when you switch the headlights on (Remember side lights are on as well) and at 20 mpg ( Ouch :'( ) it would make a bigger impact than on my 50 mpg :giggle:

I think the problem would be if everyone in the UK were made to use their dipped headlights (about 30+ million cars) it would then have a significant effect on fuel consumption and also the environment hence the LED DRLs introduction.

Your idea of using would a dual filament bulb could work  . I will look into this, you also reminded me of the old dim-dip system introduced in the late 80's where by the headlamps would come on with the sidelights once the ignition was switched on. IIRC the system was just a big resistor which cut the power to the lamp to a 1/3. Should be able to pick something cheap up from a scrap yard to have a play with.

Cheers

In contrast though, I wonder how much more power (and price) goes into making the DRL fitments over just using the main bulbs?

I suppose just a resistor on an LED high beam bulb could do the trick couldn't it? If you bung one in the high beam port, and then just cut its power right down to a fifth or something?

Good point, and I can't answer that one, but I think its the way to go as seen in the Audi R8 which both main and dipped beam are all LEDs.

Now that could work very well, but I am unsure as to where I could source a LED high beam bulb, I've seen some on Ebay but I don't think they are actually bright enough to properly function as a high beam !

Food for thought though

Karl

Unless factory fit into the headlights, fog lights etc they look very tacky !

I see many cars and vans with DIY installed DRL's that are all wonky and it just looks **** !!!

Each to their own though...

I couldnt agree more mate.

If people are sayings its to avoid people crashing into you, 3/4 of the car a possible numpty wont see the strip of fairy lights unless its a head on collision.

And as very well pointed out if your that worried do what volvo people do and drive with the headlights on in the day.

On the way back from work there was a lad around same age as me in a black clio sport chav kart, sporting some custom made drl's from my car I started to p*** myself laughing not to the lads enjoyment. He knew what I was looking out and looked rather sheepish and as the traffic lights went green he decided to do a little burnout to what I can only assume to be ether in anger! or for me to be distracted by his budget indian re tread tyres lighting up under the pure grunt of his maccy d's power wagon!!

The moral of the story folks is keep it clean. keep it oem, keep it cool B)
