Movement in drivers side front wheel.

Featured Replies

Hey all, slight problem i need help with please.

My vRS had a bit of movement in both front wheels when you move them side to side by hand.

I have replaced the tie rods (i think they are called) and also the ball joints and now the left side is fine. Very tight and no movement at all.

The problem is there doesnt seem to much improvement on the drivers side at all.

When i try to wiggle the wheel top and bottom there is no movement at all, side to side there is a slight movement and knocking sound which i cant pinpoint. I kinda feels likes it in the steering rack but dont want to be repacing the steering rack just yet if i can help it.

Car is for m.o.t in 2 days also.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks

could be play in the outer or inner cv joint on the driveshaft or wear in the hub bearing.

Probably consule bush split.

Sorry.

Forget to mention that i replaced the console bushe's also.

When iive the wheel off the brake disc shows the same symptoms of movment side to side but not top and bottom.

I think I agree with member 'mattievrs'.

I add, the steering rack arm may have play in it, where it attaches to steering rack itself. (opposite end of the track-rod end joint.)

You really do need someone to rock the wheel from top & bottom + left & right, whilst you look at all the joints closely.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

It could be the track rod in the steering rack. It's a ball and socket joint under the gaitor and it screws into the end of the rack. It's replaceable on its own and costs about £80 from Skoda and it will come with a track rod end attached. I've seen these on Fabias before where they have play in them, so it's not unknown.

Console bushes usually show movement when they are gone when you try to rotate the front wheels with the handbrake on.
