Horrible sound when at speed in the Furby

Featured Replies

I am getting a horrible 'wum wum wum' sound when at speed in the Furby (Technical description). It is not related to turbo (new 6 months ago), appears to be unrelated to engine noise, and the VRS has just been in for a service, car has been making the sound for a couple of weeks. I was wondering if anybody else has had a similar experience?

I thought it might be the tyres, but they have a good 4mm left on a set of Bridgestones all round. Getting a little worried now!

have you had the wheels balanced and aligned recently? does the steering wheel vibrate as well?

Check the three studs along the bottom / rear of the front bumper are still there, and make sure the undertray is screwed down properly.

HTH

£10 on wheel bearing :)

Thanks for the quick replies:

Wheels balanced in Feb, and no vibration in the steering what so ever.

Will go and check under the car now to see if all is OK ;)

Thought it might be a Wheel Bearing, but nothing in turns/cornering at all (I have had a WB go before in a previous car).

Will let you know!

Ah-ha the centre stud is MISSING from the rear bumper, under the car, do you think this is the cause?

Doesn't stop a weight dropping off ... and it being a rear one. By try the missing bolt first...

Mine always did this too - always annoyed me to death, but never found the cause. My wheel bearings were quite new I think (no play either way), and I changed the tyres and it still did it.

With those studs out, the bottom of the bumper can flap at certain speeds - sooner or later you'll see what I mean on another car if you do enough motorway miles (usually a MkII Mondeo!)

Thank you for all the advice, after much scratching of heads no joy with the bumper (it is properly secured). So off she went to the garage and yes - it is a wheel bearing! There goes my pocket money for thi month!! :'(

Sorry for the slightly OT post... but before I'd even got to the end of that post I could see a Mondeo in my head...lol!

As for the noise... it's not un heard of to loose balancing weights.. you might have thrown one on the back?
