rear heated winscreen

Featured Replies

my rear windsceen took ages to clear on the way home from work wasn't clear by the time I got home10-15 mins is this normal? Only condesation not ice .

Mine is the same.

Which side was the condensation and how much?

If it's on the inside, you may have water ingress somewhere.

The rear heated screen will only defrost ice on the outside of the car; it won't remove any moisture - that’s what the rear wiper is for.

From this I assume that the condensation was on the inside of the rear glass?

If so, and there was only you in the car then it sounds as though you may have a damp car - as Darren suggests, water ingress somewhere.

You don’t mention how old your car is? Octavia's have a well known problem whereby the rear washer pipe pops off and fills the spare wheel-well up with washer fluid. I'd check in the boot first.

There is also a talked about issue where the rubber seal that runs around the boot aperture fills with water and doesn't drain properly. Again this may explain why it affects the only the rear window?

My Scout only ever mists up this time of year on the inside when I carry passengers, its wet/cold outside and I do not have the air conditioning set properly.

How long have you owned the car? Have you run it through a winter yet?

Was it dark outside - or late at night (i.e. was the car cold inside?), I have read several posts from during the winter months whereby owners complained that the windscreen condensates up regularly on the inside every morning and was very slow if not impossible to clear without drying it with a cloth. I did notice this a few times on my car and it sounds again to be a fairly common niggle across the range.

If your always doing lots of short journeys and have the interior temperature quite low, the inside of the car never gets warmed through and you'll probably notice the problem getting worse or becoming more frequent.

I guess it’s now approaching that time of year where it’s getting a little colder during the night and we'll see quite a few more threads like this.

Try giving the inside of the glass a good clean – this often helps too
