2010 Occy After market Sat Nav

Featured Replies

After some help from the forum on this one - bear with me as I have a lot of questions and the brain ain't as sharp as it used to be!! Having drifted away to the VW dark side for the past 2 years I am returning to the fold and will pick up my 2010 vRS FSi in a couple of weeks :-). However I would like to remove the Bolero unit and install my trusty Kenwood DNX sat nav unit - so my questions are:

1. Does the vRS run a CAN-BUS system - if it does are there any diagrams or are the looms the same as the pre-facelift 2010 models (which I know have a different dash layouts)

2. I have the multifunction steering wheel with audio and phone controls - if I remove the Bolero does this stop the Bluetooth phone functionality from working - ie is the Bluetooth phone integral to the Bolero or is it managed from a seperate control unit.

3. Will the rear parking sensors become useless if the Bolero are removed or are they run from a seperate control unit?

4. Will installing the Kenwood steering wheel control adapters prevent the steering wheel from being used for the normal maxidot display functions / bluetooth phone?

Apologies for the questions but I really want to put the Kenwood in as it has everything on it and is an excellent ipod control unit.

Any advice greatly received - cheers Paul

PS - Promise never to wander form the Skoda path again ;-)

The octy is can bus, and yes you'll lose parking graphics. Parking will still work.

You'll also lose mfsw controls, but should be able to use phone via the stalks if factory phone option

Thanks gadget man - so is it safe to assume that the can bus would be the normal Mk2 version as there seems to be nothing specific about for a 2010 Occy from Autoleads or Connects2 currently.

Yup, should be the same as other mk2's

I have another question (surprise, surprise!!) - this time regarding the fascia surrounds for a 2010 vRS. I have been reading around the forum and seen this part mentioned 1Z0 858 069 DK DF1 as the replacement fascia for fitting the Columbus Sat Nav (this would also do fine for the unit that I have with an existing adapter). Is this the right fascia for the 2010 Occy with the rectangular climate control panel??

Ok - an update for anyone that is interested :-)

The new Kenwood DNX9240BT is installed but not without a couple of hitches. The fascia surround is well worth purchasing from Skoda directly as it does look better than finding a blanking plate to fit the hole left by the Bolereo. I did a quick search around the forums and for the vRS and the part number is 1Z0 838 069 DK DF1 - the dealership charged me £30 which wasn't too bad. The first issue that I can across was the necessary fascia plate which then needs to be fitted into this surround in order to accept the double din unit. I ordered a 'Connects2 CT24SK06 Skoda Fabia Octavia Roomster Facia' - I can now advise that if you want to fit a Kenwood DNX unit this is not the fascia adapter that you need as the unit will not fit in corrects with it's own bezel. The solution is to go for is the CT24VW06 which is designed for the VW Passat / Toureg and does allow a double din unit and bezel to be fitted and sits nicely into the centre console surround.

The second problem I came across was with the wiring loom connector - I went for the Connects2 CTSSK002 to enable me to use the MFSW controls. It almost works with the exception of the rotary volume control which doesn't. If you click the volume control is still mutes the Kenwood head unit but I suspect that the adapter is still designed for the pre-FL models with the button MFSW. I am waiting for a response back from Connects2 with regards to this as I am hoping that an Audi or VW adapter might work with the rotary volume control - I will update the post as soon as I have an answer.

The right hand controls on the MFSW still function and you can get to all the MFD option and change them accordingly - the only thing that you lose is the Audio menu and control which was expected.

Relatively straight forward to replace he stereo, the only part that had to be removed in order to allow better access was the glove box which was removed via 6 torx screws and then provided the ability to move the cabling and ensure a good fit.

I will attempt to post some pictures of the finished install but if anyone has any follow up questions I would be more than happy to try and answer them if I can.

Paul

24th October - further update regarding the wiring loom. I have now had it confirmed by both Autoleads and Connects2 that both of their advertised looms for the Octavia 2 will not work with the newer MFSW with the roller volume control. However I have had success with the guys at Incartec who were extremely helpful and with a combination of their Kenwood UNICAN product 29-UC-005 the quadlock to iso cable 29-UC-QUAD1 everything now works.

www.incartec.co.uk - very helpful company indeed.
