So far so good.

Positives of the new car:

Led lights

Funky needles on the dash

Feels much taughter

Quieter???

New style alloys

Feels more responsive despite the engine being tight

Negatives:

Touch screen stereo (herself hates the finger prints on the touch screen)

Hadn't realised how many squeaks and groans the old car had developed in its 33000 miles since March 09.

Also whats this about having to put the clutch in prior to starting ( a colleague with a new style Astra has to do the same).

Overall i'm a happy bunny - even more so considering i'm paying about £30 a month less despite having maxidot, sun roof, spare wheel etc.

should always start with the clutch in anyway, puts much less strain on the starter motr/battery as you dont have to turn over the gearbox full of cold thick oil as well as the engine

Nice car BTW

Another positive...

It matches the caravan

and another negative....

you have a caravan :giggle:

Cheeky :p

fixed towbar though?

Mechanical sympathy aside, I would guess the 'clutch down prior to starting' trick is a safety feature, gets my vote.

I have always done it anyway, I was taught to when I was learning to drive and it stuck. The 'pressing the button in when pulling the handbrake up' manoeuvre didn't though emoticon-0143-smirk.gif

That big white plastic box following your vRS will spoil the nice lines of your lovely new car emoticon-0136-giggle.gifemoticon-0105-wink.gif

At least the car will blend in with it now!!!!!!!!!!!

Well can always swap it head unit with me plus cash for a none touch screen :)

Clutch operation?

Whats that!! ;)

Good luck towing...Dont forget to pull in every 500yrds and let the queue behind past!!! :)

Is that mudfflaps I see, are they Skoda ones, and how did you get them to fit the VRS???

caravan needs a roof spoiler to match the car :giggle:

The speed record for towing a caravan is only around 130 mph so best get the Octy remapped & give it a go although I doubt you will beat it as I think the tow car for the record was a Dodge Viper

Very nice, on the whole though it doesn't seem there is much difference from your experience other than aesthetic but I guess that is what a FL is all about.

So have Skoda now moved to a push button/key start?

I'm intrigued as to why people are saving so much on payments when buying a new FL Octy - was the previous car bought outright on some kind of agreement? Just curious.

A bit more than just aesthetics. Got the new CR engine, which is a large improvement, better stereo, air-con etc etc etc.

OK let me try to answer everybody!

Fixed towbar - yes, we caravan a lot so can't be bothered faffing around with a removable.

Clutch in - seems to be a new thing for safety - as I said my colleague has it on her new style Astra - i've always done it anyway.

Caravans holding up traffic - yawn heard it all before - certainly not with a vRS. Look in front of the caravan outfit and you will find out what is holding the traffic up (NB nor mally a Nissan Micra!)

Point of changing to the FL - my old car had the CR engine so it was purely asthetics for me. Just seems like a better package and bottom line is I was getting itchy feet.

Cheaper payments - on the same 15000 mile a year PCP as i was on before, but the no VAT deal and the fact that secondhand cars are holding their value (according to the dealer) meant for a better deal. To have a new car with more spec for less is, for me, a no brainer.

Oh another thing I love about the FL is the is the damped action of the stalk for putting the ful beam on!!!!!!!!!!!!!

....Mudflaps???

Sorry!

Fitted by the dealer this time.

When I bought my previous vRS in March 2009 they would only fit them to the front but gave me a set to fit to the rear myself, following the instructions set out on here.

Noticed they had fitted them to one of their demo's a while back and are now happy to fit them.

nice review that :) The headlight action sounds a bit odd as I cant think how it wouldnt work as it does now but ill soon try it out.

Mine was built last monday so hopefully here before end of september. Im in the same situation as you, going from a blue 58 CR to a FL i white and ill be paying less per month on the PCP. Cant wait!

+1 :)

new car, more extras, £45 less a month

oh and my pet hate on the new car is the revamped headlight switch, but im getting used to it.

Have now used the new car for towing ... felt a bit tighter than the old one which is to be expected.

Couple of positives over the old car:

The bigger mirrors ALMOST make towing mirrors not needed, will continue to use my towing mirrors though.

The towing bracket on this car sits higher than on the old one so the 'van rides level.

the stone one will be cheaper to live in than the plastic box :giggle:

I hated caravans until I saw this. I have ordered a silver VRS estate. Where can I get a silver caravan?
