DSG, engaging reverse problem.

Featured Replies

Anyone else had problems? nearly nailed a friends car when reverse failed to engage properly while i was parked on there steep drive. It took four tries before the car went backwards even though the selector was lined up with the R in the selector gate, made for an exciting end to the day after watching the Tour of Britain,

Mark.

My old Altea with the DSG used to be sluggish taking up drive in reverse on slopes sometimes. Using the handbrake as in hill starts, was what I used to do as a matter of course in the end, as it was a bit close sometimes, just like you found. ;)

Only had my SM 12 days but will be careful and report any issues.

Its a characteristic of the auto gear box and the low torque of the 1.2. You have to have some revs running to counter the rolling away. Best thing is to depress the footbrake thus engaging hill hold, and then organise enough revs to counter when the brake comes off. I reverse back up a slope into my garage (better than reversing into the road) and have found it easier after a few practices. I doubt you'll have the problem Mac, but will be interested to hear.
