COM Surrogate error windows 7 now cant burn cd`s

Featured Replies

Recently I have been getting the Com Surrogate error in windows 7 mainly when looking through pictures everytime it does this it just locks up. Now i have noticed that in nero burning rom i cant drag mp3 files to the box to be burned it then locks the system up but does not mention the com surrogate error but its doing the same thing all I have is the circle thing spinning round and thats how it stays.

What is this com surrogate error and Is there a way i can repair this rather than doing a full re-install of windows 7, I have the full version disc not the upgrade.

Thanks for any help on this.

Have you installed any kind of codec pack for divx xvids etc?

old and outdated packages that are not fully compatible with Vista/7 can cause this when trying to preview the affected filetype

I have k lite codec pack v5.05 basic but have had this installed for ages without any problems. I have tweaked my kaspersky internet security 2011 application settings and told it not to monitor com surrogate this has been fine for viewing pictures but nero 7 is still having problems I can import music files as a data disc but when i select audio disc they dont drag and drop instead just crash the software by telling me its not responding.

I have re-installed nero and its still the same, but it worked fine before now.

Which version of nero?.... i think earlier versions will have the same issue... try installing the latest k-lite codec pack from free-codecs.com and see if that makes it any better
