Oil Temperature Not Displaying?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Had my new Octy Elegance for a few days. Gradually working everything out. The Maxidot shows Oil Temperature but seems to show three dashes permanently. Is this a fault or am I missing something?

Me too!

What temp should the oil temperature be showing? Mine often reads 93C. This might be unrelated but I'm also having problems with the readings on the Maxidot of my new VRS. The average fuel consumption constantly gives random readings - 12mpg-24mpg-48mpg-78mpg-120mpg-200mpg, then back again! Very weird.

Is there a known problem with Maxidot?

The oil temp only displays once it reaches 50C - this takes a couple of miles on my CRD140 Scout.

The oil temperature seems to lag the water temperature needle which seems to get to 90C more quickly.

If it doesn't display the temperature after 5 miles, I would assume something is wrong - I would get the sensor checked.

seems liek you have the instantaneous consumption setting on

Let's not loose sight of the fact that water is quicker to heat up than oil.

Oil temperature reading can be turned on, but will not function unless the car is set to variable servicing.

Enter the 'vehicle status' menu to see how many miles it states until next service. If it's 9k something, the vehicle's probably on fixed.

That explains it as I asked for the dealer to put me on fixed servicing (I only do 7 to 8K per year). I'll go in to Maxidot and disable it so it doesn't appear when I cycle through the display! Thanks, Noirexpress- saved me a pointless trip to the dealer!!

Me too - again!

So why is my car different. Is there something wrong with Maxidot?

The car is most differently set on fixed servicing yet after about 5 minutes running the oil temperature appears and finally stabilises at around 90 - 106 C dependent upon driving conditions

Not sure there then! Was just going on my how my MY11 vRS TSI behaves...

Someone with more knowledge can hopefully shed some light!

Mines is on fixed service and it shows the oil temperature. 246 days left or 2940 km. i.e on 15000km is the service.
